My family and I were at Apogee stadium last night for a terrific night of Drum Corps. The shows were AWESOME and we were so happy to see DCI in person again!
Sadly, the facility and the facility management were not at all awesome. From the poorly managed traffic getting in, the single file line to pay for parking, the one entrance open for thousands of spectators causing one line to snake around the whole stadium ~ it was a MESS! Tho we were in line from the freeway 40 minutes before the show started, we missed the first 2-3 corps because of the ineffectiveness and inefficiency of the facility management. In addition, the restrooms were a disaster (flooded, no TP) and water for purchase was warm and in short supply. I don't know where the "system" fell apart, but it sure seemed that UNT and Apogee were not prepared for the amount of DCI fans, tho this should have been known by the advance ticket sales, or no were they prepared with the resources required to manage the influx and traffic flow of both cars and people.
In addition, the clear bag policy needs to be communicated in large print in the email with the tickets, as well as on the tickets. Too many of us were being turned away from the line or at the gate because this policy was not made known.
We did not let the lack of planning ruin our evening. But it did leave a poor impression of UNT and Apogee Stadium ~ an unfortunate situation which could have likely been avoided with a little advance work. One star given only because a star...
Read moreGreat stadium to watch a football game. My family and I went here just a little over a week ago and we had a great time. The atmosphere was fun and the stadium itself has a very nice flow to it. It is easy to get around in with both concessions and bathrooms set up for each section of stadium. Tickets for general admission were about 25 dollars and parking was 10 for the cheapest near fouts field. Everything thing else was more expensive. Overall for my wife, my child and I plus parking was about 70 dollars.... So not too bad.
Now normally, I would end my review on a good note but I had to take off a star for this one. The parking is atrocious, the way they have the stadium set up and how they get people there is mind baffling. There is no signs telling you where to go. If my wife and I had not looked on there website on where to go, we may still be sitting there. Also answer me this.... Why does it take 45 minutes driving to go less than 3 miles? That is how long it took us to go from outside the stadium, to the parking lot at fouts field. It was poorly run and compared to other stadium's they have a lot of catching up to do. It was a good experience, it was worth experiencing, but I...
Read moreWent to see fireworks. Awesome stadium, but if you go for fireworks, be prepared to walk forever after you finally find a place to park, after waiting an hour in traffic. If you don't like heights, then the footbridge over the freeway and very steep seats may give you vertigo or trigger your acrophobia. The fireworks show is off to the left, is a very short program, and is slightly obstructed from view by the huge light poles. The band is worthless to listen to, because the sound system is horrendous. You can barely hear them. Go very early to get good seats and avoid traffic. Bring lots of water, snacks, and cash for parking. We also brought seat cushions and used sunblock & hats, since we got there so early. Make sure you fully charge your phone, or you'll regret it. Park as close to Bonnie Brae as possible in the last parking lot. It's farther to walk, but easier to get out of the gridlocked traffic...
