I absolutely love this zoo.
It is the best zoo, in terms of animal care, I've ever been to. The animals seem to be very well cared for and loved by the employees.
The park is pretty clean for how busy it gets. They do a great job keeping up with its visitors.
The place is pretty huge and they have SO many exhibits. Lots of well loved animals! My favorites are: sloths (who've had 2 babies in the past 2 years, super cool to see if they're out!), capybaras, lots of frogs n reptiles!, Pecan n Cashew the raccoons, the hyenas, LOTS of penguins, otters, porcupine, river hogs, lorikeets, przelwalski horses, and giraffes.
One time we visited on my birthday, and it was kind of a slow rainy day, and we happened to be watching the giraffes when a keeper was getting ready to feed them lunch. She noticed us there, and was sweet enough to offer for us to go feed them! The experience was super cool and random! Totally made my birthday so awesome. I really enjoyed all 3 giraffes, but BB was SO stinking cute.
This place REALLY cares about their animals, and it definitely shows.
They also have an on site animal hospital, and the operating rooms are visible to the guests. Its really neat educational experience! I haven't been there while something was going on, but the employees will chat with you and teach you anything you'd like to know!!
Overall amazing place. So many fun, interactive experiences with lots of chances to learn new things! I love coming here.
The food is pretty good too, normal prices for a zoo. And the gift shop has lots of options, again normal prices.
Parking is free too! And they have quite a bit of it. That's honestly such a plus considering it's so close to downtown. I always go early during the week, so it's normally not crazy busy - except...
Read moreWe had a really fun time at the Denver Zoo, but there are a few things they could improve to make the experience even better. It was a super hot day, and while they had misting tents, the misters were way too high up, you could barely feel them. They definitely need more misters placed lower where people can actually cool off. Navigating the zoo was also a little frustrating. I downloaded the map on my phone, but it was still confusing. Some areas looked like dead ends but weren’t, and there weren’t enough signs to help guide you through. It would’ve been nice to have more staff around too, in case you needed to ask for directions. There were plenty of places to sit and take a break, benches, walking chairs, and shady spots were easy to find, which was really appreciated. The zoo grounds were very clean, and the bathrooms were appropriate and well-maintained. The zoo is currently under construction in some areas, but it didn’t take away from the overall visit too much. We did grab Dippin’ Dots, three small cups for $23. The price was steep, but the portion was decent, and I shared mine. The face painting was also overpriced at $25 for a single design, which felt a bit much. I was glad they had a water bottle refill station, but there really need to be more of them scattered around the zoo. One thing that could’ve made this an unforgettable experience would be an interaction station where you can engage with animals up close. That kind of personal touch would’ve been amazing and really set the zoo apart. A highlight was that you’re allowed to bring in a cooler with your own drinks and snacks that's a great option, especially for families. Overall, one of the best zoos I’ve visited, but a few adjustments could easily make it a...
Read moreTOO MANY CHILDREN AND BABIES!!!!! You walk around and people are changing babies in the open like it’s no big deal and then breastfeeding in the open like it’s no big deal! And then you have kids screaming at the animals! Children and babies should be banned!! And I went on a Wednesday when schools are in session!! The gift shop is a joke. The stuffed animal selection is limited and the animals are stiff, recycled materials and not soft, weighted or floppy, just stiff upright stuffed animals and they want $25!! The food is also a joke. $16 for a cheeseburger with a thin unsalted meat patty! And $6 for a bottled soda! Ridiculous! Oh and they do not have any Polar Bears, wolves, jaguars, leopards or African Elephants (just the dorky Asian elephants which are smaller). There are probably other animals that they don’t have that I missed. You also could not go and see the lioness and her newborn cubs!! You can look at a tv screen to see the live stream but I can do that at home! I know this is the animal’s homes and they need to be comfortable but half of the animals you can’t see because they are hidden or way on the other side of their habitat! Design the habitats so the food is closer to the guests! Also the glass exhibits are badly scratched and fogged so you can’t really see the animals through it and forget trying to take pictures! Kind of a waste of time and money. $26 per adult to enter?? Seriously? I get they need to pay for the zoo but it still seems expensive especially if most the animals are hiding!! You also don’t get to pet any animals! Can’t you sedate a lion or something so we can pet their fur? I’m kinda joking on that but I might as well have just browsed Pinterest instead of coming...
