We bought tickets on-line as well as the "Zoo it All" pass and the "Glow Package".
Zoo it All - This came with unlimited train-rides, carousel rides, and 4-dimension playing of polar express in their 4D theatre. We only ended up doing the 4D theatre, because the line was so long for the train! I loved the 4D movie, it lasted 15 minutes. It says it would be $4 for the showing, and the zoo it all pass was $9, so would not get the zoo it all if we were to go again.
Glow Package - This came with glasses that make the lights look like snowflakes, a Denver zoo hot cocoa plastic cup with lid, and one glass of hot cocoa! The refill stations are not truly "refills", as they cost $3.77. I think the glow package was $8, so it seemed worth it to me! The glasses are cool and hot cocoa was delicious.
Zoo Lights - The lights are very cool and animal themed themselves. Many of the animals were out, even at 6-8pm. We say elephants, giraffes, zebras, hyenas, hippos, cranes, flamingos and leopards either outside in their exhibit or inside. If outside, you have to have a good eye to see some of them, especially if they aren't moving. They also had the reptile/fish/snake exhibit open, which had lots of animals.
It is very crowded, but not crowded to the point where you can't move or see what you want. You can easily walk around people if you don't have a stroller, wagon or wheelchair. It is a little harder to get around with the strollers, but they seemed very popular for families with kids.
There are several places with food, drink, and rest areas to take breaks. We stayed for 3 hours and only left because it was fairly cold. We enjoyed every minute, other than waiting in line for the 4D movie for 10 minutes!
Parking seemed a bit stressful, we Ubered and they just swing in and pick you up in the loop. I would recommend Uber if you have a party of 2 or 3. I think you had to pay...
Read moreOne of the best things you can do during the winter. A relaxing walk through the zoo at night. If your neurodivergent, I'd recommend trying to avoid any of the major holidays or weekends as it tends to be overstuffed with loud children and adults who are paying way more attention to the lights than each other than their surroundings. That being said, it's for good reason. This is an amazing date events. Despite it being a holiday event intended for the season of giving, it does have an overwhelmingly loving vibe. Even as a child, this felt like one of the most magical events that I was able to attend, visiting a location after it's supposed to be closed, seeing bright colorful lights everywhere that I can interact with in a lot of instances. And then getting to see the animals how they would act at night when there were less people around. Any of the creatures that are allowed to be out during the night time are far more active and interesting during this time. There are also many holiday themed treats that can be ordered including hot cocoa (practically mandatory if you're going during February) And some delicious cookies. I'd recommend starting a path that takes you by the reptiles the felines The birds And the primates. As each one of these locations to my knowledge is open during the offense and has climate control allowing you to take a break from the harsh Colorado winter. Also definitely definitely definitely buy your tickets in advance. You will not be able to make it through the whole event if you have to wait 10 to 30 minutes in line which is how long I remember it be. It's been awhile since I've been myself as my budget hasn't allowed me to go. But I suspect it's...
Read moreThe lights are fantastic & definitely worth the price of admission. However, I bought three Sweet Treats package for myself & the Beer Tour package for my husband. The "souvenir" cup for the beer was not a souvenir cup at all. It was just a plastic cup. I didn't eat much all day in order to save my calories for a funnel cake. I'm diabetic, so this was kind of a big deal. I wanted to wait until our train ride was over before getting it so I wouldn't have to take off my gloves & could eat it as we were leaving. I went to the funnel cake place & he told me the truck was closed. Then he told my husband they ran out. I went to get funnel fries instead. They shut down early as well & couldn't get the pilot light relit. Went to another place for hot chocolate & they were out. What's the point of having a sweets package if you're just going to run out or close early? There's also not a time listed on when they close, but I would think 8-8:30 would be way too early to close when tickets were at 6:30. At the very least, have an announcement saying you need to get your food bc things would be closing. It was a total...
