I have a love hate for Lamps Plus. I love being able to look at all the lighting selections in store. I like a lot of their store brands even though they are slightly overpriced. Most of the sales people are pretty good but they work on commission which makes the experience really pushy and horrible. That's about where it stops.
What I really hate about this place is their return policy is horrendous. Make sure you like what you buy and keep all the packaging. You can't return by mail without the restock fee, they'll tell you they do this to keep their prices low but that's a lie. Their prices are so overinflated already. Anything that isn't their store brand you can find elsewhere for a significant discount compared to here. I've literally saved over a thousand dollars buying the same brands elsewhere. And with those other stores if I don't like it, I can return by mail without restocking fees. The packaging on their store brands is by far the worst packaging possible. It will make a complete mess when you unpack it. The in store shopping experience is a nightmare. Sales people trying to multi-task all over the place. No dedicated cashier or customer service rep. I've had to wait over 30 minutes just to make a return. I've been in the middle of being helped and then they start helping someone else to then have to wait all over again. This had happened so many times over the years. It's better to just shop online, order it, and then return to the store if you don't like it. It will save you an hour. Most of the time I dread going into the store but I love lighting and I'm a junky.
So yes their store brands can be unique but you can generally find something similar elsewhere. Sometimes I do find something I really like and will buy it but I generally wait for a sale to get the price down. Just know that half of anything their sales or customer service people tell you about sales or pricing is BS. The way they treat their employees just seems like it's probably a horrible company to work for too. I am happy for a store dedicated to lighting but I wish their executive management would just come up with better solutions that are most customer friendly and not about making every last...

Not only is the price for what you can get else where what you buy else where will come complete .. they made it so you have to use there specific switch if you want to dim and control fan speed .. not just any universal switch will work. Led flickers .. so after 2 phone calls and 2 trips to the store i purchase the switch there customer support said goes to this fan .. so i ask if that was all it needed .. received confirmation so another 35.00 each i head nack to install . I notice as soon as i pull out the package there was something else . So i call back and of course . A transmitter separate from the fan sold separate from the switch and was an additional 60.00 each .. when i asked why wouldnt that be sold together since it needs it to work .. not only that why wouldnt the entire set up be sold with the fan to begin with .. then they mentioned they sell switch and transmitter together for 70.00 but there sold out of that package ... So now i had to go to another store across town on another day so what should have and would have taken the one day ended up a 3 day escapade . As a contractor can be detrimental for what is as simple as selling units complete .. complicated for no reason other then more money.. i tried to explain this to manager when i picked up the switch and was completely ignored with a hurry up and buy type bye. He said some do some dont .. and that one didnt ... Took my money and said have a good day .. im like really .... Never would i ever recommend a business in the business taking advantage of consumers forcing a this type of up sale to make more money .. rather then communicate this from the begining ... Read moreWorst experience I have ever had when purchasing a lamp. The lamp that I purchased was shipped immediately and that is great. But I also was charged for a lamp I did not order. I was told not to worry because that sale was cancelled and I would get a credit. Not so. The lamp I did not order was actually shipped to me. I am now told by the store manager that I cannot get my money back until the lamp I did not order is received and I return it. How can this be?? My visa was incorrectly charged for something I did not order. And somehow this is my responsibility? Talk about lack of empowerment by a store manager. I will just dispute the charge with Visa and get my money back. Terrible, terrible, terrible. Do not do business with this store.
Attached to this is a response from Lamps Plus apologizing and stating "our store reports that your issue has been resolved".. This is nonsense! It is not resolved. The store wants to think it is resolved because they told me they will credit as soon as I received the item (which I didn't order) and give it back to the FedEx delivery person who will pick it up. Again... I never ordered this item - nor did I authorize the charge to my Visa. Any normal business will just issue me a credit! Tomorrow morning I will dispute the charge with Visa. Unbelievable!!!!! This is what happens when companies don't empower their employees to take care of even the smallest things. DO NOT shop at Lamps Plus - ever! One start is too good.
