Hood Commons — Attraction in Derry

Perhaps the best Greek food in the northern suburbs. The horiatiki salad had red fire roasted peppers that I thought was a nice touch. The gyro with fried eggplant was an interesting variation but putting lettuce in it is a deal breaker for me. Between the eggplant and the lettuce, the taste of the gyro got lost. I'd recommend that they stick to a more traditional way of preparing their dishes and quit trying to Americanize them. Americans who visit Greece LOVE the authenticity of the food and there is no reason we shouldn't be able to get it on this side of the Atlantic. I have visited Papa Gino's. Plenty of parking. Looks like a decent plaza. Shaw's is a part of the plaza. Update: December, 2019; I visited the Planet Fitness. Large establishment compared to Raymond and Lee. Update; Tuesday morning 🌄, June 2021; Sandwich 🥪 shop, sushi 🍣 and a coffee ☕ cafe also here. Coffee ☕ Factory is a good place for coffee. Update: February 2024; I have shopped at Shaw's and received immunization injections at the pharmacy at Shaw's. Prices are high at Shaw's but it looks good inside and the staff have good customer service skills. The pharmacists were friendly, helpful and I had no issues with my injections. Not much to day about Hood Commons. A few good stores. A sandwich shop where you can stop, relax, use your electronics and have a breakfast or lunch break. Next is a little women’s “up style” clothing store. Prices right but mostly small sizes. Then comes the best Greek food. Amphora’s. Love this little restaurant. Jewelry store, Packing & ship and tax preparation.

Turning the corner is Big Lots. I love shopping here. Cleaners. (Kind of unique. Lovely place to sit outside.) Sally Beauty. Papa Gino’s. Radio Shack. Exercise/ strength training. Equipment Rental. Down the far end is Shaw,s - Very expensive!
