Catholic Diocese of Des Moines — Attraction in Des Moines

The Diocese generally is adequate: it has several good, orthodox priests who strive to be faithful to the Church's Magisterium. This does not necessarily carry over to the schools, however. Many of the schools within the Diocese are Catholic in name only. They are simply private schools with religion tacked on as an after thought, without much apparent regard for the salvation of souls. Indeed, some even pander to secular, non-parishioner families in favor and to the detriment of parishioner families. What's more concerning is that there appears to be a policy (whether de jure or de facto) of admitting students based on academic merit rather than their standing and status within the parish (i.e., whether their families are active, tithing parishioners). Catholic schools, after all, were created so that Catholic children could be raised in the faith.
