My wife, mother, and I really enjoyed the Farmers market downtown Des Moines. Next summer I hope to attend a few more. Prices were affordable and every booth had great organic vegetables and fruits. I am excited to return next summer. I was pleasantly surprised on the varieties of vegetables and fruits that are grown in Iowa. I knew corn, but not Thai Chilie Peppers or Thai yellow wax beans. I was not aware there are several varieties of Thai vegetables. Very interesting. Tried several cheese samples and hot barbecue sauces. Big Bad Triadad by Big Daddy Orginal Bar-B-Q. Extremely tasty 😋, but extremely spicy. Love the sauce. 5 stars for all items and Market. ✌️

Des Moines Farmer Market is considered to be the second best farmers market in the country. My philosophy is if someone is claiming to be the second best at what they do they truly must be the second best. With that said out of all the markets I have been to the Des Moines market is at the top of my list. From 9am to noon every Saturday for 3 seasons it does not get better. Live music, fresh produce, gifts, food and more spanning multiple city blocks in the heart of the historical court district. I will warn if crowds are not your cup of tea go bright and early in the morning to have your fun!

Always a fun experience for a food lover. Bring sunscreen if you’re pale and make sure to have sunglasses (you’ll be walking straight into the sun at times) and a full water bottle (seriously, you’d rather spend your money on good food and drinks instead of a plastic water bottle. On my most recent excursion I decided to test my hunger by eating every single egg roll I could find. The best, if you’re interested, was Steve’s Chef Kabob followed by Mao’s, then the other Hmong stand and Rolling Wok. Next I might have to try ranking tacos, or ice cream? Who knows.

I love the Farmers Market here. It's a great place for families with slightly older children who can handle crowds and queues who like trying different food and for those just looking to support their local farmers and businesses. The sheer variety of food stalls and other handmade items is really inspiring and the prices are reasonable. On my last visit I bought Pork Dumplings, Kettlecorn, A grilled cheese with sweet lemonade, a tea drink, and locally produced cheddar cheese curds all of which were delicious. It made for a very fun day out.

I love the Des Moines Downtown Farmers Market. I go every Saturday that I am able to, whether I plan on buying something or not. I have enjoyed getting a freshly made Sourdough every week, have found some delicious honey that reminds me of the Fynbos honey I get back home, as well as some lovely baked goods, fresh vegetables and there are always beautiful flowers to see to. Very sad this is ending soon, I believe it runs till the end of October and then closes for Winter.
