I would like to start by saying, thank you to the staff at the motor city casino hotel. Very friendly. Drove in from WI to stay two nights for the lions game. We had a great time. Room was clean and well stocked. I want to be clear, my poor review is not a reflection of any interaction with the staff or Property/room.
Quite the contrary, my problem resides with the upper level management of this facility. I booked this room well within advance of the nfl season, I was in total and utter shock when I pulled in seeing how many people were protesting. I was completely caught off guard as where to park, as the previous garage I had parked at before was closed off. So after circling the block a few times, I discovered we were supposed to park in the free casino parking lot. While pulling in, we were practically harassed and attempts to deter us from pulling in were made. Now, I 100 percent support these people in demanding higher wages and better working conditions, once again, my anger resides with upper level management for not taking care of their employees; which in turn, effects my experience and somewhat makes me regret booking a room at hotel/casino. Also, I don’t gamble, so to be harassed for “supporting” the casino was upsetting, considering I was strictly here for a lions game, In which I booked in May. Please note this continued for my whole two day stay. I honestly felt guilty at night knowing there were people marching for better pay and I was somewhat supporting their opposition. That’s before we mention a lot of hotel enmities were also closed. The most important being the hotel shuttle to Ford field. Had I known this was occurring, I would have most likely booked a room somewhere closer to Ford field such as the Element hotel. It’s well within walking distance of Ford field. Motor city was a 30 min cold walk, so instead we ended up parking at the opera house parking garage for 50 dollars. Not to mention it took 45 minutes to exist the garage after the game, rather than the motor city hotel shuttle being there for us. I love coming to Detroit for games and it was my lil bros first one. However, I was extremely disappointed to see the upper wigs sell out their employees which ultimately leads a lesser experience for your guests and makes us second guess where to spend our money in the future. Once again, the workers fantastic and the room was nice and clean, but this is a rating for the motor city hotel as a whole, and the upper level employees failed to do their jobs to make sure every guests experience is great and money well spent. I will be sure to keep this experience in mind for the future. To the people of Detroit, demand your fair share from these casinos and stop allowing them to rack in billions on your backs! To management, pay your da**employees....
Read moreThis hotel was selected for a business trip in August of 2025. The first room assigned, I put my suitcases in the bathroom and did a check of the bed and found spots and stains on the sheets (not sure of the cause of the stains but the stains looked like bed bug poop (from online research)). There was also food crumbs, eye lashes, and a plastic fork under one of our double beds. While sitting and debating if I should request a cleaning of the room I saw a live bug crawling on the bed. My sister captured the bug in a tissue for proof. I am not sure what type of bug it was as I never personally had bedbugs before so I wanted to show the front desk for them to check. I had done research on bedbugs as I heard of horror stories and take every measurement to avoid getting them. Once we seen the live bug crawling, I called the front desk and told them I need a bed bug check when they bring up fresh bedding we previously requested. The staff then laughed before hanging up the phone. (Excuse me?!?) I walked down, handed them the bug and asked them to identify the bug. The staff said he was not going to look but will let management look at it (it was probably thrown in the trash). I then requested a new room. The staff was apologetic and gave us a $50 credit to our room card. They then moved us to a new floor and room. The new room had more black dotted stains which concerned me. I wanted to leave the hotel but the party I traveled with pressed we should be fine as they didn't see live bugs. I could not sleep at all and stayed up all night to watch out for any bugs. It was a horrible experience to sleep here. The next day after leaving work I came to my room and found it unclean. I called the front desk and they said in order to have my room cleaned I had to request it prior to 4pm. I never heard of any hotel not regularly cleaning their hotels in between stays. As I expressed this they then made an effort to come clean my room after the cut off time and changed my sheets. The new sheets looked New! The cover however did have some black small dots which still gave bed bug activity. The staff became nicer over time as I stayed (3days). I never seen another live bug but I will like to say I feel that All hotels in business should regularly clean their hotel rooms and treat for bed bugs as ppl can bring them or if they have them, cause a huge infestation. I made it back to my home town today and left all my luggage in a hot car out side, and when I bring my clothes in the house, everything will be thrown right in the dryer for at least 40 mins. I also will leave my luggage in the sun for 3 days!!! Beware before you book and God bless all!! Pictures attached of the spots found. (I wish I took a picture of the 1 live bug we found in our...
Read moreSo, I'm going to rate this place as a hotel, because that's what it is. The casino is a PART of the hotel building, but i don't think that's relevant to the standards of where a person is supposed to be resting their head. So with that said:
This place is kind of garbage. I've slept in many, many hotels of varying quality over the past decade due to housing difficulties and also at one point my job WORKING in hotels, so i need everyone to hear me when i say: unless you are here PRIMARILY for the casino, and plan to spend your whole stay in the casino, only coming in to sleep and then leave, you're legitimately better off in a motel.
This hotel has NO amenities. None of the basic stuff that even the trashiest $50 hotels have. No pool? No laundromat?? No MICROWAVE??? in fact, not even a place to warm up food at all?? Oh but of course not, because then the only way to get food consistently is through their 20% upcharged foodcourt(but don't expect any room service, what are you, a guest?)
Wifi was so extremely bad. Just awful. My laptop wouldn't even connect at first until i did some computer magic, and when it WAS connected for longer than a few minutes, everything loaded...so...slowly. i went to Arkansas a few days after my stay in the middle nowhere and THEY had better wifi!! Even the fridge was some tiny little beer fridge, not even big enough for bottles! Let alone food!
The ONLY redeeming part of the place is the quite above average bathrooms and the admittedly comfy beds. But here's the thing, as someone who has, again, worked in the hospitality industry and slept in hotels when i didn't have a home, I'll level with you: Basically all hotels are around the same level of quality in terms of comfort once they reach a certain stage. Some hotels may have some slightly nicer matresses, or softer pillows, but truthfully? Once you reach a certain level(2.5-3 star) they all are basically the same. Which means thay the TRUE difference between hotels is what they offer. Your room being CLEAN is the bare minimum. Getting free extra pillows is the bare minimum. Having a damn MICROWAVE is the minimum. So what are you really paying for? Well for the prices this hotel asks for, you should be getting at least room service. You should be getting free concierge. You should be getting complimentary breakfast. A POOL. But you don't.
This is a 2 star hotel pretending to be a 4 star. The people were nice though...
