UPDATED REVIEW I have been a customer with MGM for over 12 years consistently. Ever since Covid and the casino no longer offering smoking, I have been coming less. I use to come every single week, sometimes multiple times a week. Since covid, MGM has made so many changes within the hotel, the casino even with the valet. We went late last night, paid $435 for a room. Upon arriving, because we were not black card members we had to pay $25 for hotel valet, even though we were staying at the hotel. This is new as of the past 6 months or so, I was surprised. 2nd, I was starving and simply wanted to get food before we checked in or before we started to play. We went to the Steakhouse but it was closed, it was around 1130pm, so we walked to the food district, got there at 11:45 for them to tell us they were closed and everything was already barricaded off, menus all said they were closed- regardless of the hours showing until 12am. So I said let's get a drink really quick from the fountain located at the south end, of course machines were shut down. Then decided to go to Tap it was 11:50 we waited at the host desk for 10 minutes, not one person acknowledged us, I was praying we had 10 minutes even if we couldn't sit down we could do a quick order for apps or something and take it to go and up to our room, no chance. We then walked to the other fountain drink area, closed. Now I was upset like I understand things close early (post covid) but there was 0 options for food or a drink in a casino at Midnight. So we then went to check in, I made the reservation 2 hours prior for the gentlemen working the front desk to tell us there has been and issue and they do not have a room open for us. He went to go talk to his manager where he came back and offered us a lower graded room with 2 queen beds (we reserved for a king suite). We agreed as it was midnight and on the phone they told me there isn't an option for cancelation. In previous years, we always had our rooms comped because of high plays but if the hotel was over booked they should upgrade us, not downgrade us. At this point I went on doordash to order food because the feont desk representative told us that in room dining is also closed. I was appalled that there was 0 options to eat or drink, not even a vending machine. Annoyed, we decided to go to the slot smoking room where we played a little bit and waited for doordash to arrive. After about an hour, I look over and see that the Roasting Bean little food shop was OPEN! Omg I was so mad, how did the representative not know that after I showed annoyance with the 0 food options. We got our food from local doordash driver and went upstairs ate and went back down to play. Finally the bar in the middle of MGM we ordered 2 cokes which we were charged $16 for the same size cups that the complimentary fountain drink machines serve. We played baccarat for about 2 hours, went to go smoke outside, came back in to go buy another 2 drinks at the bar which was now CLOSED! Thankfully I found a waitress who was holding about 8 chilled waters on her serving board and I reached in my purse to grab some money and asked her if I could buy 2 waters, she rolled her eyes and scoffed at me and replied "These are for my area, I am sorry I can't serve them", I stood there for a solid minute or so in disbelief. Went to go back to baccarat where every single high limit slot machine was closed down, it's only 3am. Went to walk around in the public area, same thing almost 90% of slots were shut down. They never refunded the cost of the king suite to the 2 queen bed room. I will give a call tomorrow to discuss. I probably won't be back for a while, this was one of many poor experiences I have had recently at MGM. And it's a shame that they no longer send offers for free play or rooms. GREED kills business. It's like they're doing everything they can to take money from every and anything but offer nothing back to the customers spending tens of thousands of dollars...
Read moreHere's the problem with the majority of casinos including this one MGM Detroit, they handpick who they want to win. I know cause, I won $39,385.11 On June 11th 2023. 3 weeks before I won a gentleman came up to me and says he had hit it back in january for $25,000 Right here at the same casino I was like nice. On June 11th In the early morning hours, I go in there, ironically, I win $2002 And beat the devil snoop doggs, The Joker's Wild. Coincidence? Just plain luck?? Or outright planned? It's definitely the latter. Because the same gentleman that told me that 3 weeks ago the morning. I hit it for $2002, He returns shortly after I won he comes up to me and says Hey, And repeats what he told me 3 weeks ago that he had won and told me to stay on player two. It's going to hit soon. Again? I was like okay so I come back later. That evening, 3 people were occupying the machines. I came back about 35 minutes later. Put a $100 in player 2 and once it got to $284. I smacked the jackpot. There is no doubt in my mind. That they pick and chose who they want to win someone that's spending money. Someone that has good energy And a good Crowd, pleaser. And gets in to it. And that was me. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind, not because it was me whoever it is. If it's drumming up business and they pick and choose within reason. The problem I had was after I won. They removed the jackpot from the spin mix and I could tell when you were playing $5 a spin. It was no longer in there. They didn't want to take a chance of someonevsmacking it again. I also believe that they reset the machines no question. I have proof of that. So if you wanna go there and have a good time and not spend a lot of money and you go home. It's a place to go. That's why I give it one star. But if you're going there in The hopes they're going. To be honest with you in your play. No. Even the card games I believe are rigged, for example. The blackjack it is so hard to win and not just one time. Not 2 times multiple upon multiple times and I see the same thing not just only with me. But those around me. The Card shufflers are shuffled Perfectly in the combination that favors the casino, they know how to do it. They're good at it and I've watched how I play it superbly well and it still takes you down. Every single time is that just bad luck or total outright Rigged? So that's my experience. Take it for what it's worth. I'd rather win Fair and square than preset. When and then they rigged the machine, so nobody else can hit it and playing. Card games that are already preset and no matter how you play It. The casino is gonna win more times than it should e en more when they are smooth operators at grabbing your cash...

⭐☆☆☆☆ (1 star)
Today, on July 21, 2023, I feel compelled to express my profound dissatisfaction with the appalling treatment my partner and I received during our stay in Room 1425 at MGM Grand Detroit. As longstanding Gold and Platinum members, we expected better treatment and amenities, but instead, we were met with utter disappointment.
From the moment we entered our room, it became evident that the hotel's negligence towards its guests' needs was astonishing. Shockingly, there was no microwave in our room, despite the exorbitant rates we pay for our stay. The absence of this basic amenity felt like a slap in the face, leaving us wondering if the management cared at all about our comfort.
To make matters worse, when we inquired about using a microwave, we were informed that we would have to pay a ludicrous $20 per day! Are you serious? This is nothing short of a shameless money-grabbing tactic, preying on guests who are already spending a small fortune at the hotel. We expected better treatment, especially as loyal patrons who have invested substantial sums of money at MGM Grand Detroit.
It is unfathomable that a hotel of this purported prestige does not provide complimentary access to microwaves for its guests. It feels like they enjoy charging for every tiny convenience while disregarding the loyalty of their patrons. I regret the tens of thousands of dollars we have wasted on this establishment, only to be treated with such disdain.
Not having access to a microwave left us with no choice but to either eat cold leftovers or spend more money at the hotel's outrageously priced restaurants. This blatant lack of consideration for guests' needs is utterly unacceptable, and it has undoubtedly ruined our experience.
The management at MGM Grand Detroit needs to take a long, hard look at their policies and priorities. Providing basic amenities such as microwaves should not be seen as an opportunity to gouge guests with additional fees. It reflects poorly on the hotel's integrity and customer service.
In conclusion, our stay in Room 1425 at MGM Grand Detroit on July 21, 2023, has been nothing short of a disaster. We are deeply dissatisfied with the lack of a microwave and the outrageous charge for its use. As longtime patrons, we expected better treatment, and it is disheartening to realize that our loyalty holds no value to this establishment.
