So many reviews raving about great service... But in a place like this, they make it seem like a Michelin quality restaurant when in reality it's a knock-off tire brand of sorts (get the pun?)...

I did not feel welcomed stepping through the door (what a lot of people on here rave about). I had a reservation for a table and arrived right on time. A table for two was not available (they manage these time windows poorly). So instead I was given a high chair table right in front of the door that kept getting opened (obviously lol) and the cold breeze hit me every time, and that happened like 25 times while I was at Peterboro.

It took the waitress about 10 minutes to approach, and while the place was busy, she gave us a stare and kept going elsewhere until finally approaching us. She made it seem like we were doing her a favor being there, but I tried discounting it on the fact that the place was busy.

Food arrived and my wife's noodles were some of the best I've ever had, and I don't like noodles. However, my sesame chicken was mainly covered in some batter that was gloopy (I assume over-saucing was the cause or they didn't fry the nuggets enough). And while the chicken in this dish is covered in sauce, there should be some sort of crunch. The flavor was on point though. The rice that came with chicken was sad to look at - just simple rice, zero seasoning, zero garnish... And while the chicken was sauced, it still didn't mean that rice had to be so boring. Crab rangoons as an appetizer were very good. That's about it. But $23 for freaking sesame chicken with about 10 pieces of meat and that half-dead rice that was crying for at least some soy sauce? Nahhh...

There was a manager (I guess?) walking around and checking in with people. I found it quite funny that a place that tries hard to be fancy has a floor manager that tries to make the place seem as if it is a Michelin quality restaurant, but it's just fried foods and noodles place in the essence. No offense, but it is what it is.

The waitress was the "cherry on top" though. She NEVER checked in with us until I called her over for a bill. And now that's what I call unacceptable, regardless of the place being busy or not. Someone refilled the water once and brought a pitcher but it wasn't her.

Bottom line, there's nothing phenomenal or outstanding about the place itself or the food. This is the era of Detroit's revival and there are a lot of restaurants that will give the Peterboro run for its money. I don't say it's a bad place, but it is a visit-only-once type of place for me.

They really need to fix the 5-star attitude and get down on their actual level...and maybe then their...

Just moved to Detroit, I wanted to go here a few weeks ago but got busy and so I was super excited to go yesterday and finally be able to try it. When I got there, I sat at the bar. I immediately felt like there wasn’t a sense of urgency to the customer here, after I finally placed my order, the entree food came out extremely fast, I was impressed but at the same time it seemed too quick. The speed did not make me feel like I was in an upscale restaurant providing fresh food. The rice tasted old and had some burnt parts. When the crab rangoons I ordered for an appetizer finally came out, 10-15 minutes later, I ate one and the outside was warm but the inside was cold. I thought maybe it was just that one, so I ate a second one and it was still cold on the inside, seemed like it was frozen prior to the fryer. I told my bartender and she said she would get me new ones, but seemed quite annoyed at the same time. I continued to eat my food thinking the new ones would be out fairly quickly, but time kept passing and I was trying to eat slower so I could save room for crab rangoons but they took about 20 minutes to finally get to me and when they did, they were burnt. Another five-ish minutes later I got three more crab rangoons ? Which I was confused about and I was assuming they were the original three I gave back. I boxed my food up and took it home, frustrated with the whole ordeal, and when I went to heat it back up today I noticed that three of the crab rangoons they gave me as my replacements didn’t even have any filling in them… no wonder they burnt.. the food was alright but extremely underwhelming for what I was expecting, this was 150% not worth paying $50 for one person for an app, entree, and one drink.

I will say that the drink the bartender made was amazing, but her service skills lacked and she seemed to be not moving very quick, even my drink took forever to get. In addition to my food experience, I noticed one of the workers, who I assumed was a manager, just leaning on the bar on her phone, during which time I saw people waiting to be seated for what I think was too long to wait. The reason why I think she was a manager is because she was on a laptop at one point. Employees leaning at the side of the bar seemed to be a trend here.

Needless to say, I was super disappointed and I won’t be...

I hate to post bad reviews but I was highly disappointed.

I have been wanting to try this place for so long, only to be completely let down.

I called around 8:30 on a Friday night to see what time the kitchen closed. I was told by someone over the phone that the kitchen would close at 10:30. I arrive at 9:30, asked for a table for one, I was told that I had to sit at the bar because the kitchen is going to close in 20 minutes (9:50, way before the time I was told which was 10:30). I sat at the bar, ordered a Gold Fashioned, fried rice, and crab Rangoon for my appetizer. Before I could go wash my hand my entree was served first way before my appetizer. That alone through me off, and told me something about my entree wasn’t going to be right. I took about 6 bites out of my entree because I was truly hungry. I barely put a dent in the dish. It was horrible. It was extremely salty, and way too wet for a fried rice. My waitress said she was going to let the kitchen know, but she wasn't genuinely concerned. Around 10:15 she gave me my check. I pushed my full bowl of overly salted rice to the edge of the counter so she could see how dissatisfied I was. She didn't care. Instead she just swiped my card. I said "So you're not going to take that rice off?" She said "No, I already swiped your card". The minimum gratuity here is 25%. I tipped 20% because thats my minimum, but i should've tipped lower for the poor service. Also around 10:20 the entire staff had their coats on sitting at the bar, and standing against the walls because they were ready to go, when on Friday they don't close until 11, there was no sign on the door stating that they were closing early, and the woman on the phone clearly stated that the kitchen closes at 10:30. I would've rather called to talk to a manager, but its late, i had an extremely long day, i was extremely hungry, the food was horrible, and rushed, and i didn't appreciate being rushed out of an...

Ok, we did the pull-up in Detroit for my birthday at the Peterborough, which is located in the old Chinatown district. I have seen and heard good things about this place. I started off with a very delicious cocktail, the ghost. It was really good. The cream of coconut, along with the grapefruit juice, made it very refreshing. We then sampled some small plates, which were very good. Bou buns were the best. Then, for the main entries, we got the sesame chicken and shrimp fried rice. This is where I was a little disappointed, and it fell short of my expectations. The shrimp fried rice had really bad scorched taste. Almost like they didn't stir it enough in the hot wok, and the rice burned a little. The sesame chicken was just ok. It had a really thick coding of batter. It's just a tad bit too much for me. Overall, Peterborough was just ok. I would not make a special trip to return from Annarbor. If I did return, I would definitely stick to the small plates, which were delicious.
