I have a pretty good grasp of The Nell since I have lived here for a full year now. The ONLY reason that they deserve four stars is because The Nell is the first apartment I have experienced that has TRIED to fix the issues that arise.
I'm going to do my best to summarize some issues that The Nell has and then I will talk about what I do enjoy about living here.
Issues: āThe parking problem is incredibly real and aggravating BUT what a lot of the reviews here aren't acknowledging is that;
A: The Nell HAS tried to fix the issue by giving each apartment tags for security to identify who lives here and who doesn't.
B: Many people here who have visitors refuse to have the visitors park in the designated visitors parking at the front of the property. This causes an influx of cars that do not belong to the residents to take up the residents' spots. To deter visitors from doing this, The Nell security has tried to place stickers of towing on those cars to deter them from parking there. Those stickers give the person AMPLE TIME to move the car to the visitors lot but what do the visitors do instead of respecting that others live here? They scrape the towing stickers off and continue to sit in a spot that could have gone to a resident.
Could The Nell fully eradicate this issue by giving us assigned parking? Absolutely! Will it ACTUALLY happen? Who knows. The Nell could have the ability to do this but keep in mind, you'd have to consider zoning laws, public relations, and/or any other logistics. It's a clear struggle but people cannot claim that The Nell hasn't tried. The Nell should look into a proper solution in the future though.
ā Each building has its own issues. I personally love my building but that does not mean that I can just ignore the fact that plenty of other people have had many issues with their building. I feel for these people but I keep seeing the consistent term "Luxury apartment" being tossed into the argument. Let's be clear: even though this IS a luxury apartment, I think people forget to consider that this still IS AN APARTMENT. Apartments, no matter the price point, will always have issues. I think people don't understand that the concept of luxury living isn't how the actual building is constructed but rather, the new appliances and amenities that are offered.
This isn't a fortified fortress, these are buildings that are meant to house a lot people. To clarify, I AM NOT trying to void the complaints that others have had; I am stating that this is a layered issue with apartment living and cannot be solely blamed on The Nell.
āCost compared to the living space. I think that, for the cost, The Nell is pretty much average for the price point. Realistically, its not the best price to pay for an apartment but for what it offers compared to other luxury apartments in the area? Its decent. I have seen the prices of so many other luxury apartments in the area and The Nell is by far, the best for the amenities it offers. And sure, a person could argue that those other luxury apartments have better amenities but what they sacrificed for fancy gym equipment they pay in space. The Nell offers pretty spacious apartments.
Good Things about The Nell: (I won't touch on the amenities, the aesthetics, and etc. You can find that on their website as they are incredibly accurate. This is what I truly love about living here).
ā The area is quiet, comfortable, and incredibly convenient. Being next to the train station and near downtown Dunellen encourages me to walk more and support the local businesses. ā The property manager and maintenance workers are amazing. They are all constantly working hard to ensure that we all live comfortably and are extremely apologetic when issues arise. They do their best to accommodate in the way they can and are allowed to.
So, do I think you should consider living here? Yeah, definitely. This luxury apartment may have its flaws that need to be addressed but unless you're trying to fork over A LOT more money for perfection, this place is an...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI genuinely donāt understand how The Nell has received any positive reviews especially recent ones. My roommate and I went through headaches starting the first month moving in, and we know for a fact we arenāt the only ones since there were many fellow residents who have been moving out due to problems and some we spoke to who are determining if they should end their lease early due to the living conditions. I have been waiting to write my experience so for 2,750 a month this is what you will experience: THERE IS NO PARKING. Even with parking tags and visitor tags there is still never parking past 7:00 PM. Even on a Sunday afternoon you will have to fight for parking. Our doors, cabinets, and towel holders were consistently falling apart. The doors also are super loud or occasionally stop latching. One of our showers had been losing the grout since we moved. The apartments are clearly built in a very cheap fashion and for a ābrand newā apartment you will consistently have to have maintenance come and fix stuff which brings me to⦠hours are only 9-5 weekdays and in the case of an emergency NO ONE WILL ANSWER YOUR CALLS OR EMAILS. Our washer broke (yet another thing)and started to leak and we had to fix it ourselves after attempting to call. Our lock on the front door stopped working and once again no one answered the after hours line and we were stuck not being able to leave our apartment until someone finally responded. donāt bother cooking anything over 400 degrees in the oven as the fire alarm will go off. Open your windows during dinner hours and youāll hear them going off all over the place because they are super sensitive. your mail will go missing and no one will care. the amenities are not worth any money spent. Fellow residents make the pool experience awful and the gym is honestly meh. Thatās really all you get for the amenities and while we were there we barely used them because of how useless they were. dunellen in general is not the best town and while the train station is across the road, walking back at night sucks. Thereās not much to do or walk to do itās honestly worth it to move into the Somerville or Raritan area for a similar price with more to do
We just spent so much money to move after only a year because of how miserable we were and frankly we now live in a two story townhouse with no problems FOR THE SAME PRICE with amenities such as a dog park, bocce ball, cornhole, a fire pit, a walking path, and a grilling station. Along with a free garage AND additional parking. This also being that where we live now is 22 years old and doesnāt have nearly half the issues the Nell has when it comes to needing maintenance to fix things. The Nell is a scam of a place and if you move here you will want to move out immediately.
After The Nellās āresponseā: there is a reason you have a 2.9 out of 5 star review right now and you attempting to resolve these problems before our move out was too little, too late, and frankly not enough. Wild at the lack of accountability with how many issues your complex has AND with how many residents are unhappy. Moving was the best decision and if anyone reads this review, save your self the headaches and frustration and literally go to any other apartment complex along...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI want to preface this review by stating it is not a reflection upon The Nells current maintenance, management or sales staff. They've been wonderful people who were handed a horrid property.
Prism properties cut every possible corner to haphazardly throw this development up. This is not a "luxury" apartment, and using that adjective to describe it as such is a disservice to the word.
At The Nell you will find - Paper thin walls
Shoddy electrical work Paint on literally everything Damaged appliances Malfunctioning key readers False Sqft advertisements Cigarettes butts, everywhere Leftover construction debris (including but not limited to, bottles of urine left behind in your stove. THE STOVE) 8 minutes of hot water Dryers that take three hours to leave your clothes damp. The most sensitive smoke detectors known to man. Fire doors that do not function in the event of a power outage. Flooding every storm.
What you will not find, is parking. Rest assured when I tell you that prior to signing your lease agreement you need to take a ride through on an idle Tuesday night. You will find residents actively circling the parking lot for ages.
It is beyond deplorable the condition that prism properties opted to present this building in, and at their associated cost? Despicable.
I urge you to find residency in any of the other actual "luxury" developments that are being built in this county. Within 15-20 minutes of the Nell.
I assure you, you will regret moving into this establishment almost...
