I attended the Backroads Blues Festival on Saturday 08/13/2022.
First let me say it was a terrific bill with 3 great artists!
Unfortunately, the venue along with its staff was Poorly maintained and run.
#1 Parking: Parking is difficult here being near the waterfront. There is a free "Complimentary lot" however, this lot fills up fast in addition the parking attendants are less than helpful and do not coordinate or communicate well with each other nor patrons.
#2 Security: Security at this show was ATROCIOUS. I have never seen a group of security so aggressive with anyone in my life let alone the fact that most of the audience was 40+ or older. All night long Security was over aggressive moving people away from the barricade near the seats and was less than helpful explaining where the general admission area was in relation to where they were so hell bent on keeping people away from. What was the major concern?
#3 The Grounds/ Sight lines for GA patrons: The grounds of this venue are full of rocks and gravel and many areas are uneven and hilly which makes standing on your feet for hours very uncomfortable. You can buy a chair from the venue but good luck finding a spot to park it.
The sight lines are virtually non-existent for GA patrons with the berm and way they cover the soundboard now so you can't see through. In addition, lining monitors up on sides of the stage which impedes side angles views. Why is there not at least some kind of video board with a venue this size and the terrible viewing angles for GA patrons. You would be better off not paying a dime and sitting across the water on a bench just listening to the show!
This was my 2nd time at this venue and the last time I will ever spend a nickel at this venue.
It is in need of a complete overhaul...
Read moreMain takeaways: wear comfy shoes and get there early. The earlier you arrive, the better parking you’ll get. Or take an Uber/Lyft if you live close by.
Wearing comfortable shoes (you’re probably going to have to walk a distance to the park (depending on where you park).
Bold Point Park has a great location by the water, but the ground is dirt with A LOT of pebbles/rocks. Which isn’t a problem however, families may have a problem pushing a stroller or disabled persons may have trouble pushing a wheelchair.
My wife has had a lot of knee surgeries so standing on the uneven ground was uncomfortable for her (the venues states outside chairs are not allowed). They did offer VIP seating for $75 per person, so depending on ticket prices, that might be the best option. There were also some grassy spots to sit on if you get there...
Read moreThis is not the greatest venue to see a live concert. The viewing angles are awful for general admission ticket holders. There are too many speakers on the side of the stage that impeed good viewing angles. The event security is super rude and lets no one stand at the gates next to the seated section or really anywhere within probably 100 yards of that and gets super angry with people standing there. The staff does a lousy job explaining how anything works or where to go immediately upon driving up to the venue grounds. The venue itself is dusty and super hilly, making standing for a few hours sore on your feet. The venue has a great concept and i love that it's on the water, but the execution is awful. Hard to recommend this...
