Von Maur — Attraction in Eden Prairie

I want to start by saying that I am a regular at Von Maur, love the store, & have shopped here for years. I especially like the following departments; Cosmetics-Cindy at Channel is friendly, very helpful & personable. Never forgets to call me when there is a special event or promotion. Women’s contemporary- has great jeans & some of the classic mixed with current trends. (However, the Boho look this past season was abundant with not a lot of other selections). Mandy is always helpful & remembers exactly what I like. Also, The shoe department has great selections! However, the reason I’m only giving a 3 star tonight is because; *What has happened to the fine dress department? Dresses are very matronly, & look more like Mother of the Bride only selections. Fabrics are thick & unflattering. This felt. has changed drastically the past 2 years. Also, the men’s department is getting rid of some great designers like Hugo Boss & going more towards golf wear, Tommy Bahama, etc. Selections are reminding me of the fine dress dept. It is hard to find waist sizes for men ranging from 30 to 34. But, there seems to be an abundance of size 36 and above? I feel that many areas of the store are becoming much more conservative? Just because we live in MN., we still like to look classy, somewhat trendy, & would love to see more...

I went shopping today for a new black suit for a work event. I'm used to having some trouble with fitting, being an avid gym rat. I went to Nordstroms, and was told that they didn't have anything in my size by a kid in jeans and a t-shirt apparently working the suiting area. Macys, I couldn't find anyone to help me. Then I went to VonMaur in Eden Prairie.

Within 30 second of walking into the men's formal wear area, I was greeted by Brian. He told me that I would have better luck with suit separates because of my sizing, and immediately began showing me options. He got me sized and then marked for tailoring, which I was pleased to learn was inclusive with my suit purchase. He then found me a shirt, marked that for alterations, and made recommendations for my tie and accessories. This was probably one of the best shopping experiences I've had in the last 10 years in a department store. I was treated professionally, by a professional who was knowledgeable about their area. I will be shopping at VonMaur for everything from now on. Brian reminded me of what department store shopping used to be, and apparently still...

TL;DR Brian in menswear (suits) and Lana (alterations) are fabulous. Real expertise and attention to detail, commitment to service, and very enjoyable to chat with. Superb experience.

I was in from Atlanta and in need of a dress shirt and tie for a cocktail party. The moment I walked into the men's suit section, I was greeted by Brian, who was quick to work his magic—just such an experienced pro with a great eye. He knew just how to select a shirt and tie (and even had a great socks suggestion!) to complement my sport coat. He measured my neck and sleeve, then suggested just the right fit for my long torso and somewhat big, schlubby build. Realizing that due to my torso length, the keeper loop on the back of the tie would be too low to work, he sent it to his alteration expert Lana to have it raised. And it was done so fast. He proceeded to steam my outfit, and provided a proper wood hanger and garment bag. Talk about service with attention to detail!
