I visited this bookstore with my husband and our two toddlers today, hoping to find a nice pen to gift someone. Inside a locked display case were some pens that were a bit pricey, and I kindly asked if someone could show them to us. To my surprise, the first response from a very short hair women was, “Are you going to buy?” — before even opening the case. Her tone was dismissive and rude, as if we didn’t deserve to look unless we promised to buy. I explained that I needed to see the options first in order to decide, but she showed no patience or respect.
Thankfully, another older woman from the staff stepped in. She was warm, understanding, and genuinely helpful. She showed us the pens, gave us choices within different price ranges, and helped us find the right one. Her kindness made all the difference.
Sadly, the first woman continued to hover nearby and even asked again whether we were buying or not — as if we were being watched or judged the whole time. That kind of attitude reflects a mindset that values money over people. I hope she learns that kindness and respect are more important than appearances or assumptions.
As a mother, I want my children to grow up knowing that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity. I’m thankful for the older woman who showed us what true customer service looks like — patient,...
Read morea very lovely & cool bookstore with quite a big manga selection! kinokuniya is a great bookstore for anyone looking to pick up manga of their liking as well as other wares such as stationary & anime, manga, + japanese game merchandise.
the store has a large manga selection ranging from books good for all ages as well as light novels. they have a section for manga translated into english as well as the original japanese ones! alongside the large manga collection theres other various japanese related books. the store also offers a pretty nice stationary section with pencils, markers, pens, etc.
theres also a small merchandise section with various figures, posters, acrylic charms, etc. as of writing this a lot of the merch seems to be demon slayer related considering the popularity of the series in the us, but i was able to find a few love live & bandori related things as well (which made me quite happy as a lls + bandori fan)!
overall a nice...
Read moreI was shopping for Japanese literature and opted for Kinokuniya's North Jersey location rather than fighting my way into Manhattan. This location is serviceable but much more limited in depth and variety in Japanese-language books, and this goes for both manga and literature in general. There were a few endcaps highlighting new books and best-sellers though they were not well-stocked or eye-catching. The cashier also asked me whether I knew the books I was buying were in Japanese, which may speak to the target audience for this particular location. If you're looking for something specific and are intent on going to a physical store you should take advantage of this company's free ship-to-store option or consider spending the extra time and money to go into Manhattan where there's a much better selection in a larger and more...
