I can't give Mathis Brothers a one-star - they have a huge selection, the store is clean, they will deliver, and they carry tons of different brands. Plus, we have purchased from there in the past, and we have been pleased with the furniture we ended up with. If, though, I refuse to go back to the store, I think a two-star rating is merited.
This is the 2nd time in the last few months we have left the store empty-handed because of the sales tactics. I know that sales is about selling, and I fully understand customer engagement, commissions, etc. I even appreciate when a salesperson is good at what he/she does. Still, there is something borderline creepy about the tenacity we have seen in the Mathis Brothers store... especially the way in which a particular salesperson followed us around the (ENORMOUS) store on our last visit (emphasis on "last"). If you're making Jason Voorhees jokes while you're walking through a furniture store, something is amiss. Clearly, the salespeople don't have a specialty area (e.g. sofas or dining rooms), so they end up trying to "claim" you as you walk through the (I MENTIONED ENORMOUS, RIGHT?) store. We were a family of 5 when we entered, but we were a family of 6 the whole time we were inside... sometimes you just want to have a conversation. We ended up leaving the store just so we could talk spouse-to-spouse, figuring we could just call or go online if we decided we wanted it.
When I did call the next day, I learned that Mathis Brothers' "Price Match" doesn't extend beyond a 50-mile radius. The furniture we could have purchased at Mathis Brothers for $1,480 was sold online (with free shipping to my front door) for $1,230. When there is a $250 price difference on less than $1,500 worth of furniture, even impatient folks like me will wait the extra week (2 weeks to get it from MB versus 3 weeks online). I tried to make that point clear to the salesperson, but it fell on deaf ears.
If I am nearly assured a tag-along salesperson the next time I enter the store, and if I can get what I need online, I can't think of any great...
Read moreI went to the store in Edmond because it was closer to me. I was so excited because I have needed a new mattress for years, mind you, I went to the "clearance " center.... Ha, ya right. Anyway, they didn't have anything in there under 1200$, I asked the salesman if all the clearance centers were the same as far as the same merchandise and he said yes they were. So I ended up purchasing a mattress but it was more money than what I actually wanted to spend, but I needed a mattress. While I was trying to check out, he would leave and go talk to other customers. Instead of telling them that he was checking someone out and then he'd be with them, he would have a full on conversation with them before coming back and working on checking me out. An older couple was in there and the man was also trying to pay for his things and he said " it shouldn't take this long to buy a mattress... it's not a vehicle"... I finally ended up getting finished and he said my mattress would be delivered the next day, he explained that I would receive a text that night around 6 to let me know what time they would be getting here. I waited and waited for the text that never came, so I called the store a little after 8, I didn't realize they had closed at 8 which meant I had to wait until the next morning to call. When I called and spoke to someone, he said that he forgot to schedule it to be delivered....wow. That's not my fault and they should have found someone to deliver it, customer satisfaction and all that, but they didn't, he just said oops! OOPS? Wow... I was very very upset because now I had to wait another week to get my 2000$ mattress!!! Then on top of that I learned that ALL the stores were NOT the same and I could have found something cheaper!!! They bait you in for 60% off, and they know you're not going to buy the cheap one because it's hard as bricks, so of course to get comfort you have to spend more money....and a 99$...
Read moreBUYER BEWARE!!! I bought 2 queen size lux breeze mattresses ($5,599.00 each) for our guest bedrooms. We additionally purchased 2 mattress protectors ($109.95 each) and 2 queen power base frames ($495.00) each. The mattresses were delivered June 26, 2025. After giving it a week, I decided that the guest rooms would accommodate king mattresses. I contacted Mathis Sleep, Edmond, OK to upgrade to King Mattresses. I was immediately told that I couldn't make any changes until the beds were slept on for 30 days. I explained that no one would ever be sleeping on them for 30 straight days, GUEST BEDROOMS. I was told that I still had to wait the 30 days. I was also told that the only change that could be made was same size for same size; therefore a queen bed could only be exchanged for queen bed with a different comfort level. I waited for the 30 days to laps and went to the Flagship 3434 W Reno store to speak with a manager. I was informed ALL managers were in meetings and the supervisor in Mattress Services would not be able to talk in person, although, she was able to contact me via phone while I was in the Distribution Center waiting on a manager to complete his "meeting". I was then told that they might offer me a "courtesy" to exchange the queens for kings. It was never a question that I would not pay the difference. These beds had NEVER been slept on and still haven't. I was notified via email that the courtesy would be extended; however, I would have to pay a $199.00 restocking fee (which is acceptable) OR 10% of the cost of the mattresses, which ever is the most. Clearly, the MOST would be $600.00 per mattress, a $1200.00 restocking fee! I have over $13,000.00 invested already so, I'm being penalized for purchasing their top of the line mattresses. I now regret having ever walked into a Mathis Sleep Center and would caution anyone else to shop around before they make the same...
