My wife and I explored the quaintly beautiful and relaxing, Elk Rapids Sandbar! The water was crystal clear and cold. We went to the left of the more heavily populated area, nearer to the sandbar that people were actively playing and enjoy themselves on which was super cool to see! We enjoyed a delicious local pizza 🍕 from, The River Street Market! We had the Big Mike and The Greek wrap 🌯; which were beyond phenomenal, if you are in the market for a local lunch/dinner that is beyond fantastic, this is a spot for you! Overall, an amazing, relaxing beach 🏖️area with nearby tables/benches to sit at, bathroom area and super pretty downtown area! A++ experience we can’t wait to come back soon!!!

The Elk Rapids Sandbar is part of Veteran's Memorial Park and beach on Grand Traverse Bay that contains a playground, restroom building, tennis court and more. The Elk River also flows along the north boundary of the park. It is a clean, beautiful place to bring a picnic, swim or wade, and spend the day in the fresh air and sunshine. We visited today and two years ago. It is notable that the lake is rising which is affecting this beach. We saw quite a difference in how the beach has eroded and the river is wider.

This is an ideal beautiful place to swim. There are several parts you can sit besides the beach park. Quite area with crystal clear waters. It was very clean and enjoyable. Definitely recommend. If I had to pick a negative, it would be not enough area for parking. Great location, take your family out and enjoy the beautiful water.

I found this sandbar to be sandy and with an occasional wave. Oddly it is adjacent to Lake Michigan, making this sandbar convenient if you like water and water activities. I recommend this sandbar to all who ask me if I know where to find a good sandbar. Positive marks in all areas. Good sand, nice beach grass, pleasant water, good views, quiet, scenic. One point of detraction is that there is not an actual bar on premises, meaning you'll need to bring your own cooler of Shorts beers. If you do plan to bring your own cooler of Shorts beers then check local laws in advance, bring cans and not bottles, do not leave empty Shorts beer cans on or near the sandbar, and drive safely. "Sandbar"? Sure, why not. It's the best BEACH experience in the area for sure. One of the top 10 reasons we chose to move up here full time. We love the views, the sunsets, we can grill, bring visiting family to swim and kayak around (Sean and Charlie at Bayfront rent them!). And there is even playground equipment to entertain the kids when they grow bored with all the sand castles. The entire grounds are kept clean and well manicured which is a testimony to the effort from our village government and service departments to keep it all up.
