Ice Cream Peddlers — Restaurant in Elk Rapids Township

I understand how difficult it is now to find help. This is why most of my reviews try to focus on the positive. Unfortunately, this used to be my favorite place to stop for a treat. At times we would drive 13 miles one way just to get ice cream from here with a homemade waffle cone. In this past month we have been here at least five times. Three out of the five times they have been out of waffle cones. What??? And one time I had to come back an hour later just to get a waffle cone. So truly, four out of five times.

Make them up ahead of time, put them in a Rubbermaid container OR don’t advertise that you have homemade waffle cones. This last time it was dead in there and they had no waffle cones. 🤦🏻‍♀️ The whole point of us driving out of our way to THIS ice cream place is because of the waffle cones with the homemade ice cream.

Even if it’s busy, someone should be keeping up on the waffle cones at all times. Every time I am in there anymore they are out. There’s a lot of money the business owner is missing out on. Plus unhappy...

Pros: REALLY delicious ice cream, and a friendly owner who comes up with creative and yummy flavors. The servings are generous. The flavors change often, which is fun. Prices are reasonable too.

Cons: Slow service, partly because they have obscure flavor labels like “animal kingdom” with no explanation, so customers have to ask for descriptions of the flavors constantly. They don’t post current flavors on the window either, so that slows it down too. It is a cash-only establishment, tho it has an ATM inside. They scoop cones in a strange way that makes them hard to eat: giant scoops that overflow the cone, bits falling off, but they tax cups. I’ve had to grab a cup and spoon anyway just to keep my ice cream from falling on the ground. I mean it’s nice to get so much ice cream, but it’s hard to eat! Lol I will keep coming back forever, but they could make it a better experience for people with a few...

Ice cream is fantastic, and I am a big fan. However, the customer service is beyond disgraceful. Two of my comrades ordered chocolate milkshakes. The employees made them with VANILLA ice cream and chocolate syrup. The customers asked for it to be made with chocolate ice cream when they saw the milkshakes being made incorrectly, and their correction was met with extreme rudeness. The following day, when we returned (again- FANTASTIC ice cream) the workers were discussing our friends’ orders from the day prior and embarrassed them to their cores. Humiliating.
