I'm certainly not a person who frequently posts. However, the experience received at this restaurant, I felt compelled to say something. We have been staying in traverse city for a month and decided to venture away to Elk Rapids on a Wednesday. My husband found an event online with live music. He also found decent reviews for cellar 152 and we decided we eat here with our family for dinner. We understand that it was a busy evening and maybe they were understaffed. After we were seated, I did read below the menu that they aren’t a gluten free restaurant or they can’t guarantee cross contamination. I mentioned to the taller woman who was our server that my son does have allergies and we did read the fine print. I asked if they cook their meats on the same equipment as fish. She seemed annoyed that she had to go back and ask the kitchen. Then upon her return she said that they don’t cook on the same grill, but with how busy they are they can’t guarantee cross contamination and pointed at the bottom of the menu. Then says “we do take allergies very seriously”. I looked at my 8yr old and he said he would rather leave and I was happy to do so as well. I also take my son’s allergies seriously and it’s totally fine if they can’t accommodate us. But the whole experience is based on the server’s attitude; if you can’t control your stress and emotions, send over the manger to communicate with us. When we told her we were leaving, she stormed off. She should be happy that the restaurant who can’t guarantee cross-contamination is not being held liable...
Read moreThis place is decorated so cute and has a great vibe despite the workers vibes being pretty crappy across the board the night we visited.
We came in for my friend's birthday to see Drew Hale perform on a Sat night. We arrived at 7:45pm when he was scheduled to perform 6- 9pm.
As soon as we walked in we could see the place was packed (it's not very large). We were not greeted promptly and when we were finally greeted we were practically shooed away.
The hostess told us we couldn't order food (which we had come for). She said there was nowhere to seat us either. Most places would tell you there's a wait but I swear she just wanted us to leave.
I stubbornly stayed. I knew someone would get up and leave. And they did. A group walked out and the gentleman made a point of telling me they got up and that table was available (he was basically doing their job at this point).
So as soon as table was cleared we sat down to order drinks. We then sat there for at least 5 minutes before anyone greeted us to take our drink order.
Drew was awesome and the main reason we were there. I just don't understand if they're going to have an event an hour later than their usual hours why they wouldn't serve food an hour later? They seem to prefer you spend your money elsewhere which is unfortunate because I always try to support local.
Maybe I'll give this place another shot in the future but this was pathetic. Why was everyone so cranky and non-service oriented when this was supposed to be a fun event? It was not a great vibe for our friend's birthday...
Read moreWe dined at 152 on June 28 and 29. The Mac and Cheese was very bland and lacking any taste at all. It was topped with what appeared to be soda crackers but not sure. On the plus side the brussels sprouts that came with it were excellent. I ordered the Crispy Jerky Chicken. The chicken patty was crispy and probably pre breaded and frozen. The jerk sauce was a mystery to me. It appeared to be some sort of mayo with maybe some allspice and cayanne pepper. I spend time in Jamaica every winter and it was not jerk in any shape or form. Fries were great. June 29 Chicken salad on croissant was excellent. I ordered an olive burger and it appeared to be perfect, then I opened the bun. The olives consisted of 8 ( I counted them) small pieces of olive. Together they made up about 2/3 of a large olive. Someone in the kitchen was sleeping or just wasn't into cooking that day. The food would probably get a rating of 2 stars. On the other had our server was excellent. He corrected the olive shortage in short order and was bright and seemed really into his job and doing it the best he could. That counts for 2 stars added to the original 2. Without his attitude and work ethic this place would probably be a one and done resort restaurant. The store part of the business was excellent all in all. 4 stars and hope they pick up the culinary end of...
