Very upset...
It was the Elkhart Lake picnic and I went in after reading all the park's rules. One stated, 'no pets'. I had along my ESA, my dog. I understand the laws for ESA vs service animals is very difficult to understand and get very confusing. However, I entered the park at sat at a picnic table with my ESA. I was then encountered by a worker who told me no dogs were allowed. I explained that he was an ESA but was told I would need to provide paperwork. This is what upset me. I just left after that and respected the request to leave, however there is no law requiring any paper work for an esa or service animal. This situation was not handled appropriate and if this were someone confronted with a service animal that would be a huge problem! The law protects anyone with a service animal and they do not need any specific gear or ID to prove the animal is a service animal. In fact , the federal law states there is no proof required for a service dog, and one cannot ask for proof such as seeing an ID. There is no such thing as required paperwork to obtain a service dog or ESA! Needless to say, I will not be returning...
Read moreUsed to go once every summer, coming from another state. Always loved packing food, setting up on a picnic table and spending the day with family having fun. Place was nice, clean and friendly. This is why it was so disappointing to show up this year to find out that we couldn't bring in any food or drink and couldn't use the picnic tables. There was nothing posted about this on their website and when mentioned, I was told that it was posted on the gate for a few weeks. Did I mention that I come from out of state. Was not thrilled with their cavalier attitude. Found a better place to go, had fun in the end and found our new annual get together...
Read moreWow!!! What a park! I took my niece and nephew here for 4th of July fireworks! We had such a blast (no pun intended). They swam most of the day and I took a dip too. The water is super clear, I went out to the deep and could still see my feet. My kiddos are 4 and 5, and the lake has a rope blocking off where the water gets deeper. I found that relieving because I didn’t have to worry about them as much. They were pretty good listeners that day! There is a concession stand onsite, they have food, beverages, and floaties! The guy working the counter was friendly and helpful. I think this will be my go to every year for Independence...
