An example of a small community restoring a charming historic building and professionally managing it and promoting it as a world class venue for live entertainment. Congratulations to the Emporia community. I think the going will continue to be hard to get national and international entertainers but anyone who wants to be a patron of performing arts, whether entertainers or ticket holders, would do well to support this venue. It's a charmingly smaller and more intimate atmosphere. There may be similar examples in other smaller communities but this was my first experience and I appreciate what hard work it must have taken to provide me with such an enjoyable experience comparable to a couple of venues in my home town...
Read moreI was invited as a member of the Star Wars costuming community to attend the Emporia Public Library & Emporia State's joint May the 4th celebration. This was my first time visiting the Emporia Granda Theatre - it was delightful! The venue itself is from the late 1920s, so it has a ton of character inside. Plenty of free street parking available outside the theatre. The staff were all very friendly. The dressing room featured large mirrors, lights, separate bathrooms for men/women, and even showers. We just recently moved to the area from kansas city and have also been to Uptown Theater there and would rate this high up there if not better. Drinks very reasonably priced.
