If people ever tell you it would be cheaper to get a new computer over getting it repaired, DON'T LISTEN TO THEM! Yes, a majority of computer repair places do overcharge, but I was convinced that someone out there was reasonable. And that's when I found Affordable Computers in my search. I have a decent laptop that I've owned for three years and despite the fact that reviews said the fans in my particular model weren't the greatest, I didn't experience any major issues. When I started playing games with decent graphics on it, I noticed overheating problems right away. After about two years of this and the problem getting worse and worse (and employing an armada of fans on it just to keep it cool) I was fed up and decided I wasn't gonna use my laptop til the issue was resolved. A day or two later I paid a visit to Affordable Computers. Upon walking in, I instantly felt that I had made the right choice. Jess is super friendly and very knowledgeable about anything computer related and has the experience to back it up. I told him my tale of my laptop woes and he told me what was wrong with it, how a laptop should properly cool and why it was having problems with that. He showed me before and after photos of laptop vents so full of dust he compared it to the lint trap in a dryer and that's why it was overheating so badly. Nasty! The cleaning fee? $45!!! I handed my laptop over with complete faith in him. Something else he told me was that my fan might need to be replaced if it was broken (but they can be replaced for $15 so no biggie). Now he could've went ahead and replaced it if he wanted the extra cash, but he didn't! It was fine the way it was AND he told me how to upkeep it so I would no longer have to come to him for emergency cleaning. Even more reason to be impressed with his service. My husband and I have found our computer guy!! I have since told my mother about him who took in her laptop, was very impressed and has also left a review here. Thank you so much Jess! My laptop is running amazingly well and I have not had one heating issue since getting it...
Read moreReturning customer. First time, the part needed to fix our desktop was $300, and they were very gracious in not charging for diagnostics AND they showed us a variety of options and alternatives that were very helpful, including options they wouldnt make money off of like using an HDMI cord. In fact, they wanted to help us save money! I felt very respected and I could tell they were good at their craft, so I took note of AC for the next time I ever broke someone else's computer with my clumsy self
The second time I came in, they were skeptical they could undo my damage. The wonderful woman at the front explained in detail off the top of her head (this was amazing to me) how the water damage I might have incurred could have effected the computer. She explained what they could do and what might need replacing or cleaning and what might not be easy to save. They promised to call back after a quick diagnostic just like last time and so I go off on my day.
Just hours later I get a call that my (boyfriend's) laptop is ready! The water damage was cleanable and they had done so already! While we were probably lucky the water was concentrated to a less important area and that the damage was minimal, but I have to give Affordable Computers most of the credit here! They saved so many important pictures, memes, and lists, as well as a pricey laptop. Were eternally grateful for their expertise and promptness, and I will continue to be a returning customer until I leave Eugene (maybe even Oregon)!
10/10 everyone is friendly, quick, and so so helpful at explaining things to simpletons like me with no computer expertise :) also...
Read moreOh my goodness... what a blessing this bussiness is. I thought I had really screwed up and distroyed my laptop. I was sure it was going to cost an arm and leg and would take days to repair (Dropped it and the screen was lighting but not with any recognizable image).
Arrived shortly before the posted hours (opens and 2:00) and they were open. The wife Amber took one look at the laptop and declared it very fixable and they might even have the parts in stock. While waiting for Jess/husband to finish with another customer got a chance to meet the Dog Ceaser.
Once Jess was free... he took one quick looked and declared how about I get this fixed and you out the door in the next five minutes. The price was very very fair. I couldn't belive my ears... OF COURSE. Now I am sure that if I had really distroyed it it might have taken longer.
I stayed longer than the five minutes as this family owned and run bussiness was a joy to work with. Jess explained a couple of other things and made some suggestions as to what I could do to salvage files from another dead laptop. Again each suggestion was a very reasonable price... having dealt with other computer repair locations... this was a true...
