One of two of my favorite beaches in Evanston. Always enough room even when it's pretty busy during the warm sunny days in summer and fall. Sand is very soft and not rocky/gravelly at all. Very little traffic on the residential road immediately behind so the beach is pretty calm. Pretty long beach too and plenty of area to run around, although not as large as clark street beach a mile to the north.

We love this place. I have been 75 countries around the world and been 100s of beaches. This is the one of peaceful beach, fresh water, crystal clear and its free (if you live in Evanston) Actually i dont like to live in US but this place just keep me alive

A family friendly beach in Evanston, IL. It's right along the bike path as well with some nice lakeside houses nearby. Just be aware of the summer season teenage beach guards. The city is completely over-zealous in how it has these high schoolers declaring the "lake is closed" as they get on the beach in the morning and begin setting up. I kid you not, high school kids hired as life guards by the city of Evanston have the authority to declare a great lake "closed" forcing everyone out of the water for a time every morning or if they're understaffed. Hey, Evanston city council, the beaches should be completely open to the public and free from your narrow-minded wealthy citizens view of how the lake front should be managed. Oh yeah...you have to pay an extra tax by buying a token from the city to use the beach during a summer, then you're told how, when, and where you can...

The beach is beautiful, the water fresh, cool and clear. The problem is that you cannot enjoy it. The beach is so severely regulated with kids enforcing ignorant laws and they are extremely overzealous. There's a small square of buoys that your allowed to swim and nowhere else. It's so small that the square is crowded. I walked knee deep and the police kids started yelling at me on a loud speaker. I explained that I can swim miles and there is no currents and they said "sorry, beach rules." Then I walked with my son to the end of the beach to see a duck and I got the loud speaker to get away from the rocks. I was 30 feet away from them. I will...

We went to beach today. At the entrance the lady advice us not to pay here and just walk to near by Lee Beach and get free entrance for every Monday's. After walking 10 minutes they told us to pay for each person. If you have not good knowledge than why you are recommended to go another beach for free. Also beach is public area. How come the residents do not get any benefits from public area. Why we have to pay? We have so far 3 months summer season and we are unable to enjoy the season because of beach pay? 4 people cost $32 daily! This...
