The lakeshore trails at Dawes Park are absolutely wonderful for an afternoon stroll. Being right on Lake Michigan, one can walk for miles along the water and take in the beautiful views across the waves. On a sunny day it is the perfect place to clear one's mind and get some exercise. I saw several people walking their dogs here - it must be a canine favorite as well with all the exciting smells right by the big lake.
I'm always amazed at how green and lush Dawes Park is, even late in the year when other parks have gone brown. The old trees provide ample shade no matter the season. Several baseball and soccer fields are located farther inland so there is always the chance to spot an active game in progress. Kids were enjoying the playground equipment near the parking lot on my visit. It seemed a happy community hangout for families on weekends.
Wandering over to the lagoons on the eastern side of the park, mallard ducks could be seen paddling leisurely. The soothing sounds of water brought a sense of calm. A few coy fish jumped from the surface now and again, reminding one of the ecosystem that thrives here alongside the city. Looking westward across the lagoons, the downtown Evanston skyline emerges in a pleasing view of structures mingled with treetops. A friendly reminder of how close yet separate nature and development can be when planned well together.
Dawes Park is a real treasure for the community of Evanston. With over a mile of lakefront trails one could walk here for hours so bring your comfortable shoes! Make sure to stop by if visiting the area - it is well worth absorbing some natural beauty even in the heart of the city. I hope to return again soon for more...
Read moreBeautiful park alongside Lake Michigan! Perfect area for any type of leisure activities you like, whether it be barbecuing, reading a book, tanning, walking, flying a kite, running, cycling, etc. My visits here are mostly while cycling, but i have ran a turkey trot at this park location. As i get more familiar with Evanston; this will be one of my normal turnaround points while cycling, and would love to park my car here for a run in the general area in the future.
The views of the Lakefront are amazing! Along with the views of Arrington Lagoon! Very gorgeous at all times of the day, but the real beauty of it is in the morning and evenings; sunrise and sunset. You pick which one, but you're missing out if you haven't seen any of the two...
Read moreThe birds here are very welcoming. They don't make you feel fear, or give off an intimidating vibe. The grass is all perfectly even. Every blade. Every time. Seamless. You do have to pay for the beach which is a huge disappointment as a beach should be free to the public. Maybe that's why their birds were...
