Eden Center, located in Falls Church, Virginia, is a significant cultural and commercial hub for the Vietnamese American community. Its history dates back to the early 1980s, following the end of the Vietnam War when many Vietnamese refugees settled in the Washington, D.C. area. Initially, the shopping center was a conventional strip mall, but as the Vietnamese community grew, Eden Center began to transform into a vibrant enclave reflecting their heritage and culture.
The pivotal change occurred in 1984 when Vietnamese immigrant Alan Frankel purchased the property and rebranded it as Eden Center. The name and the dragon-emblazoned archway, inspired by Saigon's Ben Thanh Market, symbolized a new beginning for many Vietnamese Americans. The center quickly became a focal point for the community, offering familiar tastes, sights, and sounds of Vietnam.
Over the years, Eden Center has expanded to house over 120 businesses, including restaurants, bakeries, supermarkets, jewelry stores, and service shops, all predominantly Vietnamese-owned. It serves not only as a commercial center but also as a cultural hub, hosting festivals, traditional celebrations, and community events. These gatherings have solidified Eden Center's role as a vital link to Vietnamese heritage for both immigrants and younger generations born in the U.S.
Today, Eden Center remains a testament to the resilience and entrepreneurial spirit of the Vietnamese American community. It stands as a living piece of history, preserving and celebrating Vietnamese culture while continuing to adapt and thrive in a diverse...

Read moreEden has a nostalgic history for me. My parents used to take me often as a kid and I have many memories with them here. Every time we go (then and now), there’s no question of where to eat. Always go to Huong Viet. The absolute best and most authentic Viet food. Everything on the menu is delicious. But bring CASH! They don’t take credit card. Some other places take only cash as well, so be prepared.
As for all the comments about the parking - yes, it is crowded. Yes, you’re going to have to drive around several times to find a spot or even park across the road in other shopping complexes nearby. It’s always been this way. Not sure what else you’re expecting. And YES, some of the vendors don’t speak English. Eden is a place for immigrants and non-immigrants alike to come find business opportunities and to be social. If you want somewhere where everyone speaks English, go somewhere else. If you want authenticity, then...
