In short, go here if you have something specific in mind and/or don't really care about getting the best deal on collectibles. If you're thinking about coming here from the District, save the car ride and go to Big Planet or Alliance Comics or Barbarian Comics. Keep reading if you want details. Been going here on and off for the last 9 months or so. I've unfortunately found myself not too pleased with the pricing on some of their collectibles. They have some of the new wave of Star Wars black series figures a little early but are selling them at insane prices. For example, they had Koska Reeves which retails for 22 but they were selling it for 29. Same deal with Commander Bly; he retails for 22 but they were selling him for 34! As others have mentioned they are still inflating the prices of sealed Pokemon card products, but not as bad as they were over the summer. They had the Zacian Celebrations box for 59.99, retails for 19.99 and you can easily buy it online for about 25. As for Warhammer, they mostly only had Age of Sigmar and it was priced at MSRP so no complaints there.
Going to the actual comics, I've noticed that they actually dedicate quite a small amount of the floor space to comics; a very large bin (only way I can describe it) for back issues and singles, couple of shelves for collected volumes, a few more shelves for art books and oversized books, and a wall for current issue singles. I know businesses gotta prioritize space for things that will move but don't expect much variety in collected volumes, I've found that what series or runs they carry are pretty consistently the same, but have had luck finding stuff in their trade...
Read moreI honestly NEVER complain or write reviews, but our experience here was so bad I just had to write this. I brought my three kids in to the store to trade Pokémon cards, get a small number of them appraised, and hopefully get enough store credit to buy new packs. They had been looking forward to this all week...even had to do extra chores and really earn this trip to the store.
To start, the store clerk seemed extremely annoyed that we were there. The kids were being respectful, polite, well-mannered, QUIET, waiting their turn—yes they were excited to see what their cards would be worth, but still remaining quiet and non disruptive. The clerk sighed when each of the kids handed him their small stack of cards to be looked at and even rolled his eyes when one of my kids said “no thank you” to his offer.
Then when we were checking out, my one kid who was buying something (with his own money out of his piggy bank) handed the clerk his wad of cash, and the clerk refused to count it. He rudely said to my child, “YOU count the money and find the total.” While my kid was struggling to do so, the clerk sighed again. I eventually had to step in and help him count it, because my child was so embarrassed he couldn’t concentrate.
One of my kids left silently crying, the other two said they never wanted to go back there! This individual took something that my kids were looking forward to and ruined it for them. They felt awkward and ashamed for asking him politely to simply do his job.
I usually try to ignore rude employees and chalk it up to them having a bad day...but this was awful!! I had to write something! Someone needs to...
Read moreJust read about this place in the news. They had a break-in about a week ago and had $100,000 worth of comics and collectibles stolen from the store (the initial estimate was $40,000 and it was later increased to $100,000...which pretty much tracks with the store's reputation for price inflation...Seems they had to switch gears from low-balling a customer to over-charging the insurance company). I'm not a heartless person and I initially felt bad for the owners, but after reading the reviews I'm now convinced that it was most likely a personal attack... the staff has way more than their fair share of haters. But the kicker for me is that the reward they are offering for a tip that leads to arresting the thieves or the return of $100 grand worth of merchandise is $2500. That's like a 2.5% tip and frankly just insulting ...if the thieves had any sense, they would just pay the people that are close to them more money than that to keep quiet, and since the thieves are most likely also comic book geeks they probably would only need to pay off 1 or 2 people at the most because how many friends could a person willing to break into a store by shattering a glass door and steal $100,000 in comic books...
