Bombay Boutique — Attraction in Farmington Hills

I drove all the way from East Lansing into Canton to buy wedding gifts and after going to two shops that were showing open on Google, but were in fact closed, I found myself driving couple of miles up to Farmington Hills.

Thankfully, it was open and I even called to confirm. I walked in and for the next two hours I was taken on a magical tour of everything a man should know about buying beautiful, elegant Indian, and Pakistani dresses. Their repertoire consists of sarees, lenghas, salwar kameezs, gagra cholis etc from different parts of the twl countries.

However, it was the customer service by salesperson Hiral whose name actually means like a diamond and that was evident in her in depth knowledge of what to look for when buying a beautiful saree.

To be honest, I was going to walk in there buy the first pretty looking saree and walk out but she was able to keep my interest piqued by stories of different fabrics were worn and made.

Suffice to say I learned a lot and while I speak fluent Hindi and Malayalam, we conversed in English and she answered every annoying and seemingly ignorant question I had once I realized the intricacies of buying a saree.

I got to be honest, I didn't realize shopping could somehow turn into a transcedental experience of knowledge and history.

Being a man used to point and click shopping for clothes online, I realize the art of salesmanship and customer service is not dead.

I ended up buying a couple of items and walked away from the store with fair price and a sense of exquisite discovery like a young child entering a magical mythological kingdom for the first time and walking out with a great story and very good merchandise at a good price.

Awful experience. The owner is never there and the staff has no idea what is going on and call the owner constantly to get questions answered. One woman did not even know the correct way to put the blouse on.

I ordered a sari and had a blouse made. I had to provide the fabric. They took measurements which were not followed. I wanted a little longer blouse and was measured for that but when I tried on the blouse there was no modesty and I was then told that they do not make longer blouses. The top of the blouse cut to the top of my nipples. I was horrified as I did not want my breasts hanging out with no way to wear a bra. When I was upset about the top one of the employees had me one out of the dressing room so she could help me. She did not tell me there was a man in the shop who would see me half naked. I was mordified and embarrassed.

The owner Rupal said she would fix everything, which she did not. The top is still inappropriate yet the wedding is in 2 days and I have no choice but to wear it and be uncomfortable.

I love out of town and ordered my blouse in April, the store knew I would be back the week of the wedding and needed everything ready. They didn't even order my petticoats! I was in the store 4 times total to get my sari. This was a lot of time and energy for a sari that's blouse was made incorrectly. One of the best Indian clothing selections in Michigan with reasonable pricing too. I send all of my family there now. The woman I had the pleasure of working with brought out absolutely gorgeous pieces and even bargained down to under $200 for some pieces, which everyone should know is extremely rare especially with designer Indian pieces. Being that they are a boutique, I believe that they only have one of each piece. The first time I shopped with them in 2015, I wanted a gorgeous saree that had a stone border. It was only $158.00 and they also offered to make my blouse before Eid. I was very upset that I didn't take advantage of the deal or at least put a deposit down because by the time I came to get it, someone had already bought it. However, they provided me with an even more gorgeous piece that I still get complimented on.
