I was always told that this place is great. Because of Covid, really haven't had the chance to go out to eat. Finally got the chance to visit and can't say enough about my experience. The place was crowded, but everyone was seated comfortably away. We were seated right away, and had a really good cup of coffee. We ordered the eggs-Florentine. Let me just say, we have gone out for poached eggs in Pittsburgh, and been served yolks that were cooked too long. These were perfect! I mean, I've never been able to poach an egg like this. All of the staff is amazing and kind. And they are diligent at keeping everything sanitized and clean. I watched the hostess clean a booth, and she was amazing. She just didn't spray disinfectant and haphazardly wipe it down. She took the extra time to wipe down the glass in-between each booth. Everything is good here. I highly recommend it to anyone who has the chance to visit. Prices are good for the amount of food you get. Can't wait until next year, when they can re-open. We will be back! Update: Today 10/10/21; I decided that we should drive over to State College and do some shopping. I thought this would be the best place to have breakfast, one of; and still on my top 5 breakfast restaurants! When we got there, there was a line out the door. But it moved very quickly. I was impressed how hard these people work here. We were seated in a booth, but because I was too fat, I could not sit in it. I went back and told the hostess, and she was more than accommodating and sat us at a table. Trust me, this was a real eye-opener for me. The wait staff is amazing and super friendly. While I was waiting for the table, my partner was still at the booth, so I was looking concerned. Another hostess came up to me immediately and asked me if I was okay and needed any assistance. I explained to her how I was too fat to fit in a booth and that the other hostess was finding us a table. She was so sweet and we both had a laugh about it. We were sat shortly after. We ordered the Eggs Florentine, which is one of our favorite things, toast, OJ, etc. My eggs were absolutely perfect! And let me tell you, the freshly squeezed OJ is the best OJ I have ever had. Sadly, for the first time going here, my partners eggs were overcooked. This was the first time this has ever happened here. My breakfast was perfect, but his potatoes were burned and the eggs were overcooked. I felt really bad for him. And this is what I want to share about reviews. If this had been our first time here, we would have never came back. But this was a one-off day. In any case, I highly recommend this place! I have been fortunate to have experienced amazing breakfasts in Phoenix, Tucson, New Mexico, Los Angeles, Texas, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, New York. If you are passing through and get the chance, you need to stop here. It's a true gem...
Read moreServer was phenomenal. Great service, great communication, and an attentiveness that bordered on the telepathic. The moment I set foot in the establishment, it was as if the entire universe conspired to deliver an unparalleled dining experience. With a seamless dance of precision and warmth, the server maneuvered through a labyrinth of tables to attend to my every whim. Each request was met with not only efficiency but an enthusiasm that could make even the most jaded of patrons take notice. As the plates were brought forth, there was an air of ceremony, a reverence for the culinary masterpieces about to be unveiled.
The food itself was nothing short of a revelation. The first bite was an explosion of flavors, a symphony of textures that sent my taste buds into rapturous applause. The dish, meticulously composed of three elements, was a testament to the chef’s prowess and imagination. I audibly exclaimed, “WOW!”—a guttural reaction that echoed across the room, drawing curious glances. It was the kind of gastronomic experience that transcends mere sustenance and becomes an event, a moment to be cherished. Each bite brought forth new layers of complexity, every ingredient playing its role with precision, yet blending in harmonious unity. It was as if the kitchen had bottled pure artistry and poured it onto my plate.
And yet, despite the transcendent cuisine and impeccable service, there was one glaring blemish on the evening: my dining companion. The company I endured was nothing short of insufferable, a vortex of negativity that threatened to pull the entire experience into a dark abyss. But I, undeterred, forged on like a hero in an epic tale, refusing to let their foul disposition taint my meal. With steely resolve, I focused on the vibrant flavors before me, savoring every bite as though it were a precious gem. I finished my meal with a sense of triumph, having navigated not only a feast for the senses but also the arduous task of enduring my companion’s presence. In the end, I emerged victorious—sated, gratified, and utterly enchanted by the culinary mastery that had unfolded before me.
One last note:
As our meal concluded, we inquired about any upcoming Veterans Day acknowledgments, given that the observance was the following day. To our dismay, the restaurant had no plans to honor the occasion, offering neither discounts nor special recognitions for veterans. This oversight deeply affected my dining companion, a veteran himself, who had hoped for a gesture of appreciation. The absence of such recognition cast a shadow over an otherwise delightful dining experience, highlighting the importance of honoring those who...
Read moreThe Waffle Shoppe is the Platonic ideal of a typical American breakfast food spot. You know what you're getting - eggs, breakfast meats, home fries, pancakes, and, of course, waffles - but every element is perfect.
I will note some specific things, in no particular order. Their coffee blend is great. The bacon (from local meat market Hogs Galore) is thick and delicious, as good as any I have ever had. The blueberry pancakes are the best I have had anywhere - plenty of fresh blueberries, golden browned. Also try a cinnamon roll or a blueberry muffin, and consider asking for it sliced and grilled. The lunch options are also good - I like their burgers and fries, but the cheesesteak may be the best in town.
And there's so much more! They do a great eggs Benedict. I always get my home fries made extra crispy. On weekdays the S1 through S9 specials are a crazy bargain. I just ate here this morning and I already can't wait to go back next time.
Two caveats: cash only, and no wifi (so no one is sitting around taking up space!). And, the lines can be quite long, especially on the weekends. But none of these things should dissuade you - if you correctly love breakfast food, you will not find a better...
