Its split into 2 parks. One for our little under 30 lb dogs & 31 & above dogs on the other side- much bigger park for them. Both are well shaded with nice places to sit, of course being a DOG park, they are allowed on the tables & most anywhere. That being said, it isnt a park for you or your kids to interact with your dog. Its for the dog to vet to know that he/she IS a dog, & to learn parameters from those other dogs without you hovering, or swooping to pick your dog up or otherwise make him/her self concious or worse, worried about your safety. We DO ask that: You NOT bring people food into the park other than an iced beverage, That you pick up your dog's poop with the provided bags or your own & dispose of it in the containers provided, That you don't bring your pupoy into the park until they have had their basic shots - that means your dog should have all of their preliminary shots- parvo, rabies 1st shot & maybe put on a flea preventative like garlic or brewers yeast with garlic - ProSense isnt expensive & the bordatella up the nose vaccine to prevent kennel cough.
We prefer that your dog stay in a harness so you can safely pick him/ her out of any possible confrontation (very rare) & that you leash/ unleash in the double gate area ONLY when your dog & the ones on the inside/ outside are calm, at which point you can enter/ leave safely. There is water in fountains, volunteer doggy dishes tho' you can bring your own. We take donations of tennis balls, frisbees & rough tough toys & at least one plastic baby pool for each side, which we fill during the hot months for dogs to use as they only sweat between their toes. We are very friendly, & the big dog side maintains a FACEBOOK page West Orange Dog Park, to...
Read moreThere is always someone who tries to bring a big dog in the small dog area. We go specifically to this park so that our small dog does not have to risk sharing the same space as the big ones. Here is a latest example: A guy brings his large Lab (60+ lbs) from the big dog area to the small dog area because his other two dogs are small and were in the small dog space with his wife, and since he didn't want them to be separated he got his Lab in the small dog area without a leash! Would he have taken his small dogs into the large dog area so they can be together? Of course not, he's selfish. Perhaps the Lab is great with his other two smalls ones, but we know nothing about him and the point is there are two separate areas - for large and small dogs, and there are other parks he can take them if he wants them to be together. There was no point in arguing with him because he was being selfish and if anything it's our small dog that'll get hurt so we had to leave. Unfortunately, there is no way to enforce this basic rule to NOT bring your large dog into the small dog area. While the place is nice and all, safety is our number 1 priority and no point in anything else if there is no way to enforce common sense rules that are...
Read moreThe dog park itself, 5 out of 5 stars. It has big fenced-in play areas for both big and small dogs. The big dog side has many trees, offering much needed Florida shade, many places for humans to sit (benches, picnic tables), a walking path, and several garbage cans. It has a lot of balls, other toys, and a plastic agility tunnel. The small dog side offers more agility activities and the same items. I have big dogs so this review is about that side. The issue I have experienced (and I have been there several times) is that not all of the humans tend to watch their dogs. Some dogs just don't get along and fights have started. I have left early after witnessing and heard many stories from other owners. Because the dogs aren't watched, the poo isn't picked up. I have stepped in some twice. Because of this I don't tend to visit anymore,...
