Dropped off my phone with broken screen at 6:15 PM (Fort Collins store closes at 7:00 PM). Gentleman who received my phone said that after the screen replacement, it takes an hour to complete diagnostic testing of the device to ensure the new screen is working. He said that the store opens at 10:00 AM and that my repaired phone would be complete and ready for pick-up at 11:00 AM the next day. I returned to the store at 12:30 PM the next day. The technician at the front desk did not greet me or ask my purpose for coming to the store, but said he needed to go to the back office for something and would be right back with me. After 10 minutes waiting alone at the front desk, I verbally called to the back office to ask if anyone was still there. The technician stepped around the wall and, still without asking my name or purpose, said that he was busy and needed another 10 minutes before he could talk to me. I said I was just coming to pick up my phone. He then asked my name and the make and model of my phone. He went to the back office again and then returned quickly to tell me they had not yet completed the diagnostic testing of my phone. He said it would be one hour (about 1:45 PM) before he would have the phone done, and that I needed to wait for this. I drove home (about a 25-minute drive one way). I called the store at 3:15 PM (two-and-a-half hours later). No answer on the first try. On my second try, the same technician answered the phone and stated that the diagnostic was still not complete (glad I didnât drive back to the store again at 1:45 PM!). He then asked me to wait on-hold 3-5 minutes while he finished the diagnostic testing. I waited and he finally got back on the phone and said my device was done. I am now on my way back to the store to pick up my phone. Hoping that it is really fixed and okay.
I have no ill will towards the people at this store. I just think their customer service can improve. If you give the customer a commitment and expectation, then please meet this commitment. Or at least have the courtesy to call the customer and communicate the status (I gave an alternate contact number for this when I first dropped off my phone). Lesson learned for me (if I ever use them again). I will always call them to confirm the status before I drive from my home to pick up my device. This is just frustrating.
Last frustration: Ubreakifix is now owned by Asurian. I pay for cell phone damage insurance for my family plan through my cell carrier, and Asurian is the company under contract to complete the repairs. My carrier stated that my plan covers 100% of the cost of broken screens, with no deductible. Yet, when I filed my claim with Asurian, they pressed and tried to charge me a $99 deductible fee for the repair of my broken phone screen. When I challenged this, they backed off and finally agreed that there is no deductible charge. Consumers beware of this company. I really think they are dishonest and many customers are paying deductible charges which are not merited. Poor service and dishonestâjust a bad company in my opinion. I hope to never go...
Read moreReally variable quality, either has gone really downhill since April or I got lucky the first time. Pretty sure they have actually broken my laptop (after losing it!)
Long read for anyone interested:
Originally brought in my macbook to get the screen fixed. They worked quick and got the screen replaced- a little pricey but less than I actually thought, mainly because I signed up for Asurion Home+. Cool.
Was pretty pleased with that experience so I thought I'd bring it in again to get the keyboard repaired. This one took a long time- I needed to file a claim with asurion, which took a while to process, and then they took a look at it (was in there for a few days) and decided it needed a new keyboard housing. Cool, no problem. I picked it up while waiting for the part to come in. Two weeks later they finally call and say it's in. I'm out of town so need to wait. Finally got it in and it took them a week to swap out the keyboard (and the keyboard didn't match the original). All good, keyboard works now.
But uh oh! Seems like when they swapped the keyboard housing something happened with the fan. Fan doesn't turn on, computer overheats constantly. I bring it back to them to fix it. Here's where the big problems begin.
First, I ask the (very nice) woman at the front desk to let me know if the repair is going to take longer than a few days, as I was going out of town again. She said of course- days later, no contact from them. Whatever, I have an old and slow backup laptop. I go out of town.
A week after I brought the laptop in I get a call- nobody knows why the laptop is at the store. I tell them it's an issue with the fan. They say there's no issue with the fan. Hmm, okay, maybe I was just using an app or something that overrode the fan. Told them I would be gone for a few weeks but would pick it up when I got back.
Got back in town, went to get the laptop. They couldn't find the damn thing! The manager said it might be in Boulder- something nobody ever told me about. Why would it be in Boulder if nothing is actually wrong with it?? The manager said it might be somewhere in the store and he would look for it. Hours later, I get a call- found the laptop! Oh good, I'm glad they found the $1000 machine I literally pay them to keep track of while they "fix it". I go and pick up the apparently fine laptop.
Well, plugged it in and hopped on. Fan is not working. Ran Apple Diagnostics- "there might be a problem with your fan". Error codes indicating the fan isn't working.
So did the techs just not do the very basic first step of running diagnostics? Were they lying to me that it was working? Were they looking at the wrong laptop? The fan stopped working when they switched the keyboard housing. They say the fan works- the computer itself says otherwise. Now I need to get the fan actually fixed despite the fact it was here for almost THREE WEEKS. Likely will go elsewhere for the repair. Don't waste your time or money here. Hopefully the fan can even be repaired after they frankensteined the keyboard. What a...

Had a PS5 controller that had acquired the most aggressive case of stick drift I've ever seen (had to turn the controller off when using the keyboard to play FFXIV), but it was a pink controller I had customized myself. I didn't want to just replace the thing. I had read online about Hall effect sensor sticks that are essentially drift-proof due to their use of magnets and not mechanical sensors, and I really wanted to install these into my controller. But I wasn't about to try to solder anything myself. My hands aren't good at precision. đ
I called and talked to one of the techs that had been active in the local subreddit (did an AMA a few months prior) and he was able to work out how to not only source a reliable pair of Hall effect sticks, but get them installed and everything. It took a week to do (which is very reasonable if you're having to order parts) but I got my custom pink controller back and it's been pixel-precise since!
