Normally I really love going to the Broadway Palm Dinner Theater. I find their plays to be very well done, the food more than adequate and the price is quite good and in fact very good for the value received.
Last night however, something happened which really ruined my enjoyment of what would have been an otherwise nice dinner and Murder in Paradise play.
My party of 4 included one lady who is in her 80's. It was a sit down dinner last night with no buffet. We were served an appetizer, salad and bread roll, main course and desert. All food was very good. Unfortunately this lady was not able to eat her main course when it arrived and was only able to consume less than 1/4 of it. When the waiter came to clear our plates she asked for a box to take her meal home to consume at a different time. He apologized and said no boxes could be given at this performance. I didn't hear the exchange and at that time I leaned over to her and said just ask the waiter for a box. He'll give it to you. He then apologized to me and said they were told they could not give out any boxes at this evening's performance. I said but there is no buffet. She just wants to take home the meal she paid for and that was given to her. He apologized again but no box.
She then went up to the man we believe to be the manager last night in that theater and the response was the same.
I am giving the Broadway Palm one star as I am totally shocked at the extreme waste of food. At a time when we should all be conscious of preserving our earth's precious resources, the Broadway Palm is throwing away perfectly good food. As the waiter was taking her plate of food away he just threw other used plates on top of it so you know it is just being dumped. What a waste! The resources that were wasted in growing the chicken and growing the vegetables only to willfully have them dumped out when they could have been saved to be eaten another day by the customer who paid for them. This is so bad for our earth's environment and such a waste of money and for what gain? None.
The Broadway Palm has many customers who are retired people. One would think that they would understand that many older folks just can't eat a lot of food at one time.
This is also a particular insult to their customers as this play was held in a smaller theater. In the main large theater, food boxes are handed out all the time...
Read moreWe love going to Royal Palm Theater, although we don't get to go often. The venue, food, and service are always very good. In fact, they have a lovely little gift shop full of tempting things at reasonable prices. I can only speak about the ladies' restroom, but you will be very pleased with the facilities that are kept in excellent condition. The upcoming shows look appealing.
Now about the one we saw; Footloose. I realize this was opening night and that with time, it will only improve. That said, my husband and I agreed that it was pretty equal to a high school level performance. For some reason, all the singers have the notion that lots of warbly vibrato, all the time, is a sign of being a professional singer. And this was with a cast of predominantly young singers. Yikes, I haven't heard that much warbling since I went to a nursing home to sing Christmas carols with the residents. Some of it was just hard to listen to. There were, however, standout talents. Jordan Radis, who played Ren, did a very nice job, as did Emily Dunn, who played Ariel. More control of the vibrato for both of you, but a nice job overall. They sang Almost Paradise beautifully together. The only thing that spoiled the song was a lady near me who insisted on singing along. Rude.
I personally loved the character, Willard, played by Zach Greer. You really made the show fun for me. I also loved Rusty, played by Audrey Taylor Floyd. You have a great voice and a promising career ahead of you. The Rev. Shaw Moore, played by Robert Tully, was very bland. I would have gone astray with such an unconvincing leader in my home and church, also. Very uncarasmatic character/performance.
In spite of my negative comments, I believe, overall, that this show will improve as time goes on and everyone settles into their character. And maybe control...
Read moreThis was my Second time attending a show. The first time was incredible. However last night was a complete disaster. I was considering buying season tickets for the upcoming season. After last night I am considering changing my mind. First I ordered the chicken Florentine and my chicken was not cooked and still pink. So I sent it back and had the Buffett instead which was extremely disappointing the vegetable lasagna was very dry. Then their air conditioner had broken and they did not make anyone aware. it was at least 78° in there (when I saw the thermostat ) and people were perspiring & fanning themselves. and one older man actually passed out!! as I felt like I was going to as well. I ended up taking my ice cubes and putting them on my wrist in the back of my neck. I had the waitress bring me two more glasses of ice water. Then there was the seat issue, they placed us at the wrong table and we mentioned it but no one did anything. Well after our supper, a young lady walked up and told us we were in the wrong seats which was by the rail and she made us move closer to the aisle. The whole thing was handled very unprofessionally. So me and two of my friends all scooted down closer to the aisle. So between the wrong table the undercooked chicken & the heat it was a terrible experience!! However the...
