Tonight I visited Sherlock’s Escape Rooms in Fort Worth and had a fantastic time tackling their “Dragon’s Spell” room. My daughter and two of her friends, all 11-year-olds, joined me for what turned out to be a puzzle-packed adventure. From the moment we stepped inside the suite of rooms, we encountered clever riddles and challenging tasks that demanded teamwork, creativity, and more than a couple of hints by the all-seeing Wizard. There were also plenty of cute fantasy animal props and a perfect fantasy mood. (It's kind of dim, and though small flashlights are provided, I recommend using the light from your cell phone.) Even though we didn’t make it through the entire scenario, we had a great time, and the girls especially are eager to return and pick up where we left off.
A special shout-out goes to our host, Parker, who played the role of the Wizard and guided us with well-timed, gentle hints throughout the first half-hour. He provided just enough clues to keep us moving forward without spoiling the fun, and at the end, he kindly offered a hint so we could continue our quest next time. Parker also suggested another room that might be a good fit for us, and considering how much the girls enjoyed themselves this time, I’m sure we’ll be back, though hopefully bringing my older son, an escape room vet, along, too. If you’re looking for a family-friendly yet thoroughly challenging escape room experience, Sherlock’s Escape Rooms in Fort Worth is the...
Read moreFrom the moment we stepped into the enchanted world of Dragon Spell, we knew we were in for something special—but nothing could have prepared us for the legendary experience we had under the guidance of our escape room master, Zander.
Zander was nothing short of wizard-level awesome! His mix of humor, patience, and charm added a whole new layer of magic to our adventure. Whether we were deliberating which way a backslash actually went, dodging (ignoring) falling snakes from the ceiling, or arguing over the screaming mandrakes, Zander was right there—cheering us on, dropping hints with perfect timing, and keeping the energy high like a true guardian of the realm.
But the real gem? The post-game debrief. Zander walked us through our journey with the perfect blend of detail and dry wit, pointing out our near-misses, accidental genius, and—most hilariously—the utter uselessness of the kids (kid stroking egg in background doing nothing of use). He didn’t hold back, and we were all in stitches reliving how they mainly contributed chaos, confusion, a lot of random button pushing and egg stroking, with a hit of overstimulation. 😂
His humor made it feel less like a critique and more like a stand-up routine. Honestly, we might’ve solved it faster with a pack of squirrels—but we wouldn’t trade the laughs (or the memories) for anything.
10/10 would quest again. If you’re planning to tackle Dragon Spell, may the magic align and Zander be...
Read moreWe recently tried the Haunted Mansion escape room, and unfortunately, it was a complete letdown. As returning guests, we had high expectations based on our previous experience with The Shed, which was absolutely fantastic and left us eager to try another challenge. Naturally, we assumed the Haunted Mansion would deliver a spooky, immersive experience. Sadly, we couldn’t have been more wrong.
From the moment we started, the flow of the puzzles was completely disjointed and confusing. Nothing felt intuitive or cohesive, making it frustrating rather than enjoyable. To make matters worse, there was absolutely no innovation or creativity in the setup—no trap doors, no surprises, and nothing unique to elevate the experience. Instead, it relied on outdated, uninspired old locks that felt like a step back in time, and not in a good way.
This was supposed to be a fun, memorable activity for my husband’s birthday, but it ended up being the worst escape room we’ve ever done. It didn’t feel spooky, exciting, or even remotely entertaining. We’re truly disappointed and won’t be returning in the future. What a shame after such a great first impression...
