Updated review——-
This gym, unfortunately, falls short in several key areas. Cleanliness is a major concern— I've never been to a gym where the lack of proper cleaning was so evident. If they do have a cleaning crew, they do a shoddy job and need to be urgently replaced. It's pretty disgusting when half of the patrons don't clean their machines after use—when they actually have cleaning wipes available. It's hard to understand why restocking them remains an issue, especially now that COVID is over. Probably goes back to the lack of cleaning crew issue.
Going back to the patrons, a few guys tend to hoard two or three leg machines during peak hours. I'm all for pushing your limits, but don't be inconsiderate and use multiple machines during peak times. I wish the staff would actually enforce some basic gym etiquette rules instead of chit-chatting all the time.
Also, what's up with basic machines being broken for months? For example, the leg extension machine has been out of order for 9-10 months. Occasionally, the stairmasters are also out of order.
Overall, it seems like the management at this gym is more focused on pushing their personal training classes than keeping the basics in order, such as cleanliness and working equipment. And now it seems like they're pushing supplements? They really need to get back to the basics.
———— They should rename this gym to the “desert sports and CUHness” given how this gym is overrun by the Cuhs and often looks more like a high school gym than an actual gym. Also, is the name “desert” because it’s super hot inside and they make you want to feel like you’re in the actual desert? Some days feels like a sauna inside.
Ive been a member of a fair share of gyms throughout my life and this is probably one of the dirtiest gyms I’ve been a member of. See list of pros and cons below:
Pros:
Convenient access for those that live in the southwest side of town, as with the closure of the Santacruz LA Fitness options are very limited
While equipment is limited, it gets the job done most of the time
24 hour access (as long as they key fob card works)
Cons:
Dirty gym and patrons: very few people actually clean after using the machines. A lot of the younger people that come in crews and “work out” (mainly come in to chat) in the evening lack proper gym etiquette. In the handful of years I’ve been a member of this gym I haven’t really seen any employees cleaning. However over the past 2-3 weeks, I’ve seen some employees kinda vacuuming which is a plus (I guess?), but you can tell they really dislike it.
Lack of professionalism: it’s very clear when the manager is not around. The other employees are completely glued to their phone or just chatting with the Cuhs. I’d say you’ll get a hello/bye only 20% of the time since they are so into their phones. Also to management- why do you let some non-employees sit on your actual work desks? Not a good look, with my most recent experience back on March 30th around 3pm its off-putting and tarnishes the professionalism of the gym. Same group of kids that love taking off their shirt in the middle of the weight room to take pictures.
Broken machines: there’s a few broken machines that have been in that state for months. When the gym is this small, every machine should be fixed quicker vs waiting 8+ months (and counting…). Looking at you seated calf extension machine.
A/C: As mentioned above, I don’t really understand why they don’t lower the AC by a few degrees. The fans and open doors can only do so much, not sure if I’ll be able to tolerate the inside sauna during the summer months. If it’s a budget issue- fire one of the employees, seems like theres an extra unnecessary employee given how they’re always on their phones. I’m sure most of the patrons would...
Read moreI used to be a member for a decade in the 2000s at the Ajo location, moved away for ten years , and moved back in town to start again at their Valencia location due to the closure of the Ajo location. Based on the reputation the gym had before, and how happy I was at the gym I started again. Before, the gym was pristine and there was always people walking around cleaning at any moment. I would also always see repairmen around to ensure safety of using the machines. However. The gym is changed. It’s no longer clean, most of the equipment needs repair. One machine was an actual biohazard because it was scratching everyone who used it( this can cause Both viral and bacterial types of infection). Mirrors are cracked, astroturf is gashed(trip hazard). Most of the equipment is chipped or paint, torn, frayed or tattered. The kettlebells are so worn out and rusty /chipped that you cannot see what weight you’re looking for. . Even the cardio machines have pieces broken in need of repair. The gym has not been properly maintained and now I beleive to get everything looking nice it will take multiple thousands of dollars. While I like the staff and the personal training program they offer very much, and I like the positive atmosphere the staff and community create, i do not find it safe to work out here and will be ending membership...
Read moreThey have good equipment to work out, a little bit of everyhing. I choose this gym mainly because it’s 24hrs, I can go anytime. Unlike other gyms that have an opening and closing schedule. The one thing that really bothers be though it the janitor who cleaning up the gym at nights. I have no problem if she talks to everyone while she works but she acts like she has the authority to question you. They has been many occasions that she inturrupts my work outs to question me on how I got in. As if I dont carry my card to slide the door open. Even after I show her my card, she trys to make me scan it again. I pay my membership monthly, I might just end up switching gyms because of this issue. I am not the only one that has this problem, talking to a few people around the gym it seems as they dont like that either. I would like to work out peacefully without anyone questioning about my membership after I was able to open the door with my...
