Do NOT go. I just had the rudest interaction of my life here. I walked over to check it out and pick up a few brochures for my next trip. I went in with a smile and said i just wanted to look around. The woman working there was intense and started yelling at me. She was NOT helpful at all. I didn't know what they offered, so I said I was just looking. She flippant told me the brochures I was looking at were only for experienced adventurers with the right equipment. I told her I was experienced and had the proper vehicle but she just huffed. I nicely asked if they were the same as the online brochures on Capital Reefs website (they had very similar formatting), and again she flippant threw down a map and said that was the only one they had for Capital Reef and "I don't know why my boss would have their stuff here". Wow. Calm down I'm just curious about the area and I was still very unclear about who the visitor center advertised for. I asked if they were an outfitter and I got another rude and intense response that verged on screaming. At this point, I called her on it and then she really yelled at me. Interestingly, a foreign couple came in while I finished glancing at a brochure and her entire demeanor changed with them. It was creepy. Don't go here. It's not worth the verbal abuse and everything can be found online or at your...
Read moreI would avoid this location at all cost. The ladies who work in the center are quite nice, friendly and informative. However, on the way out of the parking lot my RV went over a manhole cover on their lot that was improperly secured. This caused damage to the RV and prevented us from using this for the rest of my 10 day tour of the national parks. The staff including the county clerk were unresponsive and unconcerned for any of the issues or problems that occurred on their property at their negligence. The imprperly secured covers also create significant safety issues which they have not addressed. I encourage you to avoid this location. There are much better visitor centers at other locations. In addition Capital Reef NP was probably the least impressive of Utah‘s national parks that we visited. I would spend more time in Zion, Bryce Canyon, Arches or Canyonlands. They...
Read moreThe gentleman running this information center was a godsend. He was so courteous, hospitable and full of information and tips regarding the local hikes, trails, parks and anything else regarding Wayne County and the surrounding areas.
He helped us rearrange or itinerary to include Bears Ears national monument while we were on our way towards Monument Valley and Page, AZ. He knew about the terrain and little shortcut through Moki Dugway.
There is also free WiFi here. All he asks is that you only use it of 2 hours so that other people get a chance as well and not overload the system. We did leave him a good tip for all his information and use of said WiFi.
If you need any information regarding pretty much anything, I highly suggest stopping by this place to say hi and get a locals perspective. You will not be...
