We LOVE the Broken Spur! I couldn't believe this Abbie Meyers and what she wrote. There are hotels that allow pets, service animals, etc. Pet Free hotels do not allow pets of any kind. Period. Many Service animals also leave dander, no matter how necessary they may be for you. I have a wife and daughter who are both violently allergic to pet dander. Cats or dogs. And if we booked a room at a hotel that we thought was pet free, we expect them to maintain this policy, without compromise. I'm so glad they wouldn't let you stay there with your dog. If your dog is that essential, which I'm sure it is, you can find some place that allows animals. Don't insist that they need to break their policy and force them to let you stay there, when your dog's dander could ruin our vacation, and endanger the lives of my family members, or others like us. I'm certain there are other places to stay that are indeed pet friendly, and would welcome you and your dog. They have every right to own and run a business, and it seems like they're doing it the right way. You can't please everyone all the time. It would be not only irresponsible of them, but downright dishonest to allow your animal, or any other, for that matter, and still say they are a pet-free hotel (a pre-requisite for us to book anywhere!) I checked the Broken Spur Inn's website, and found that the phrase, "We DO NOT allow pets" appears repeatedly on their rooms page. Not only that, but I also checked their booking engine, and sure enough, beside every room description, is written, in all caps, "NO SMOKING, NO PETS." And just in case that wasn't enough, they've got an icon of a dog with a red "X" by it for extra emphasis. So yeah, insisting that they let your animal, however wonderful and necessary it might be, stay in their PET FREE hotel, without considering that your animal could trigger someone's allergies, and cause them to go into anaphylactic shock is a bit entitled. And if not entitled, selfish and inconsiderate, for certain. And don't leave an absurd review on someone's Google business listing trying to hurt them. It's immature. Business owners are people too. When you hurt their business, you hurt their employees, and their families, and their relationships. Sometimes it's too easy for us to be thoughtless keyboard warriors, trying to prove a point. I'm sorry you're disabled. That doesn't mean you have to force people to accommodate you when there are most likely other viable options nearby, just to prove some sort of unnecessary point. Enjoy your life to the fullest, with your essential medical alert service dog. Stay alive, stay safe, and stay somewhere else. You just can't convince me that not one hotel, B&B, Cabin, Lodge or motel near any entrance to Capitol Reef National Park had ANY pet friendly rooms at all. I don't buy it. Whew! Now for our actual review: The Broken Spur Inn is one of the coolest places to stay in southern Utah. Fun Western Vibe, comfy beds, friendly front desk, pool, steakhouse, AND a full hot breakfast. They know the area, and can tell you the best spots to go. Hickman arch is gorgeous, but they have all sorts of other recommendations, too! I would definitely recommend staying here... that is, unless you are traveling with pets....
Read moreI am curious if the owners of this place have actually stayed in one of their rooms? The experience might help them to make this a better place to stay. We stayed the first week of Oct 2024. This motel was so bad we ended up leaving a day early. I will give credit to the staff, Maggie especially for being understanding and accommodating. The room was clean and spacious as others say. Someone decided to put spot lights on the exterior in front of each window in the rooms. The windows have curtains so the room was bathed in light the entire first night. We also were privileged to be in a room where the bath fan light in the bathroom NEVER turned off. So, even with the door closed there was still a ton of light on that end of the room too. The ancient A/C unit sounded like a train stopping and starting each time it came on. Night #2 my husband was able to restock linens that housekeeping did NOT restock and got some extras to try and block the light from the window - which worked for the light except the A/C unit now turned off and on every few minutes. The laundry would have been great except it was being used by the hotel staff for towels and sheets. I really do not understand the 5 star reviews.
Food: Breakfast was a disaster. I wonder why a place that has access to a full kitchen serves watery, powdered eggs. See pic. The person working the breakfast was a hard worker and had a cold. He was wearing gloves and shortly after we sat down he steped out of the kitchen to where the buffet tables were set up to blow his nose. I did not see him changes his gloves. Then 3 times I saw him bend his head around a door from the kitchen to spit in the trash can that was also near the buffet tables. All the while he was lifting lids, stirring items on the buffet and wiping down tables. Needless to say this is just unsanitary and gross. Happened the second morning too. We stuck with oatmeal as it was in individual packs and we could mix it up ourselves. We did eat at the restaurant one night of our stay. Hope you don't get Amanda as your server. She passed our table 3 times before even acknowledging us. My burger was well done when asking for med/rare. My husband's steak was cooked to order but flavorless, drinks also sat empty for most of our meal. The other two servers were friendly and attentive with their tables that were around us. Unfortunately, food was over rated and service was terrible.
If you're still reading - I really feel most of the 5 star reviews are fake and unwarranted. There aren't many other options in Tropic,...
