This is a very special place but still with a few improvements. Check-In time is between 4 and 6 pm and you should ring the bell when you come there. But nobody came, answered or did anything. After some time we decided to enter the house. We could find a small table with further Check-In instructions which were actually very clear if you know which room you booked. The key for our room (Buffaloberry located on the ground floor) was hanging on the wall and we could find the room door open but we were still not sure if we should just walk in. So i called the number which we found on the Check-In desk; it's the number of the BROKEN SPUR Hotel on the other side of the street. The lady on the phone gave us further instructions and we finally were checking in by ourselves. I understand that for such a small house it's not possible to have a person always there and waiting for the arrivals. And i don't have a problem with self check-in as there were really good instructions but then it should be named officially SELF CHECK-IN. I guess there would be less confusion for the guests.
The place was basically very clean we just had one big issue. After having a small nap in the evening i woke up when it was dark outside, lights were still turned on in the room and the air con was running. I woke up looking towards the ceiling and found about 1 million tiny little flies. Everywhere! The whole ceiling! Some of them were already dead falling down on the bed and the floor. This was actually very disgusting.
Alright, but what should you do in this case? I thought calling the Broken Spur again wouldn't help to much. I thought "what should somebody do right now" which i could eventually do by myself?? So i turned on the light in the bathroom, turned the light off in the bedroom. So all the flies went to the bathroom. We could finally go to sleep. The next morning we could find all 1 million flies lying dead in the bathroom - everywhere! I guess housekeeping still had to watch something after we left.
This all sound like a very bad experience but to be fair i want to say that we still had a very pleasant stay. The breakfast was very good, the room basically was very good, too. I just have no idea where all those flies came from as there were no flies on Check-In in the afternoon.
We had Dinner at the Broken Spur which was good. See my separate review for the Broken Spur restaurant.
There is a general jacuzzi at the Skyridge on the backside of the property which i would wanted to use but when we had a look for itt, it was not very inviting as it looked very shabby and dirty.
The outlook from the Skyridge property is awesome! I could sit all day on the veranda and just watch the sky and the surrounding.
Check-Out was kind of the same as Check-in - no one there but we had instructions. But still we drove over to the Broken Spur to check about the payment as i wasn't sure if it was paid. The ladys were very friendly and even allowed us to fill our cooler with ice from the machine although it said that people should not do this. Thanks again.
If i will ever be back to Torrey i will definitely stay at the...
Read moreWhile the location of this B&B is convenient to Capital Reef Park and the breakfast was good, I cannot recommend staying here due to the mistreatment of domestic cats who live on the property, by the owner, Shawn. We stayed in late March, 2023 and Shawn has 2 young kittens living on this property, but he refuses to provide them adequate food and a proper shelter. It was very upsetting to us as we noticed immediately that the kittens were very undernourished and following anyone who arrived at the B&B, trying to get attention. They wanted to come inside (temps were in the teens at night), but Shawn insisted on keeping them out. They even tried getting into our car. They were clearly very cold and hungry. We bought them each a can of cat food and both gobbled the food as if they hadn’t eaten for days or longer. They were starving! I tried via text to ask Shawn to please provide these young cats with a warm place to sleep at night and more food (assuming he was feeding them once a day, but very little food). I was told repeatedly that he has a “different viewpoint” about how to care for “outdoor animals”. He believes they should have to hunt for their food, like animals. did thousands of years ago. He doesn’t think they need a warm place to go, even in below freezing temps. He wants them to stay hungry all the time so then will hunt the mice and squirrels on the property. It’s a very selfish, twisted way to “care for” these 2 sweet kittens who are dying for food and some compassion from humans. I spent an entire day texting back and forth with Shawn about what an “outdoor” animal Needs to be healthy and safe. He flat out refused to do anything to help these cats, despite my pleas for the basics…Adequate Food, water and a warm place to sleep. His complete Lack of concern or compassion or even care as to what his guests feel about the treatment of these cats who rely on him for their basic needs, is disgusting. I would not recommend staying at his B&B if you care about the mistreatment of innocent animals. It left a very bad impression on my husband and I, and tainted our stay in what was otherwise a beautiful part of...
Read moreOur family of five just got back from staying at Skyridge Inn and it worked out great for us! The location was super, the Town of Torrey was charming and the views were beautiful. We had the entire top floor which included (1) king size bed, (2) queen size beds, (1) single bed, and full bathroom. It was a bit warm and without window coverings we were woken up quite early when the sun rose. Fine for us but our teenagers were a bit inconvenienced (their problem). Breakfast was perfect for us all three mornings - plenty of homemade, fresh food - a great way to start the day. It was a bit hectic when we arrived with tours finishing up and other guests returning to the property. We never received a formal introduction so we felt like we were winging it a bit. Fortunately, we figured out the breakfast system and how things kind of worked without much stress. Shawn, the host, is knowledgeable about the area and is very easy to talk to. He shared a fun off-the beaten-path canyon hike in Capital Reef that we enjoyed. He offered guidance on how to make the most of our time, which worked out great. He also runs Capital Reef Outfitters, through which we went fishing and on ATVs. Both experiences were great. I'll review on that site. We would definitely stay at this property again! *We didn't take pictures of...
