I’m surprised by the amount of positive reviews for this dog park. I lived less than a mile from here for about a year, and would take my dog when I couldn’t make it to the beach (3-4 times/week).
The size of the whole fenced area is less than 100 ft2, the small dog side is the same size as the big dog side, and I’ve frequently seen well over 20 dogs on the big side. There is little to no grass, the drinking fountains are outside the park, very little shade, only two benches on each side, very limited lighting at night and lots of construction currently going on contributing to the lack of parking... DO NOT come here around 2-3pm during the week, it took me over half an hour just to exit out to Westminster blvd once, which is the only way to access the park by vehicle.
While there are some great people that frequent the park, sadly there are more irresponsible dog owners than responsible ones in my experiences here, and I’ve felt the need to leave multiple times to avoid issues. Oh and there’s lots of poop so watch your step.
This is a one star dog park, the second star is for the regulars who take pride in their local park and work to make it a better place. I don’t recommend coming here unless you have no other...
Read moreNice setting, usually parents will pick up after their fur children and take care everyone is playing nicely. It is located next to the soccer auditorium and behind the rec building near the freeway overpass. Ample parking if coming by car. The last few times we've gone, there haven't been any dogs in the small dog pen for my baby to socialize with. The large dog play pen, though, typically has a nice gathering and is fun to watch. The pens are segregated from each other and double gated, with a fenced access corridor in-between that is also gated for traffic in and out of either pens. There are trees for shade and benches for mommies and daddies to sit while the babies play. There is also a double drinking fountain outside the dog park entrance that has one fountain low enough for my Chihuahua to drink from. They're not automatic. Parents will have to press a button on the taller fountain for the water stream for the lower one. Still, dogs can quench their thirst after playtime. There are bowls in the pen, but I'm leery myself about my boy drinking from those. He never seems to want to, either, so I suggest bringing your own water if your baby doesn't like using...
Read moreSmall and open late. Sometimes too many dogs in a pen. Seen several wolf mixed breeds that can be aggressive. As well as some owners have no regards to whe their dog becomes aggressive. If you find a good playmate for your pet, I suggest exchanging numbers so you can try to go at the time time whenever possible.
Story of 1 Experience
One night a pair of very large, jet black wolf mixed breeds (Very obviously wolf with size, tail, working as a team, and blending with the darkness), were trying to get my 65 lb Australian Shepherd puppy by his neck. I quickly realized, these dogs weren't playing anymore. I was on the ground holding Dusty, as I desperately try to leash him. All while having to fight off both dogs, who are still working as if in a pack, and their owner stands two feet away just watching. These animals tried to bite me several times, and worked together at a chance to get behind Dusty, and...
