If you are in the Gaylord area, this place is always worth stopping by. You can see the Elk behind the Elk's lodge, or you can go around the corner and there is a gate on the city property that you can drive in and sometimes get up even closer to the Elk. This is a must see spot in Gaylord. If you have never seen an elk in the wild, you need to stop here. You can also get information at the Chamber in Gaylord on where you can go to spot some of these Elk in the wild, but as with any in the wild animal viewing, you might not see them. This park at least gives people a guaranteed spot to see these amazing animals. Remember, these giants actually live in the wild, right here in...

Conveniently located to downtown Gaylord. Very cool to see elk so far from their natural habitat. Warning: Unlike a zoo, the enclosure here is very large, so you are not guaranteed to see wildlife; the animals are often in the valleys or the far side of the enclosure. Also, there are Fallow Deer in the enclosure with the elk. Nowhere in the literature does it specify this, so someone who doesn't know the difference would think the deer are elk or vice versa. What would make this better is a few signs on the f with photos of the elk and deer so a newbie would know what they are looking for and what...

Gaylord’s City Elk Park is a nice attraction if you have never been to the area before. Located next to the Call of the Wild Museum, the City Elk Park offers visitors to the city a glimpse up close into nature. A great time to come is in the Fall, when males are looking for a mate. Also recommended is the Spring, when the calves are coming out and the animals are looking for fresh grass under the newly melted snow. This is a humbling experience to see and elk this close, as they are used to people and most of the time come right...

This is a "must stop" place for us whenever we're near Gaylord. We tell unsuspecting visitors that we are taking them to the Elk's Lodge. Pulling into the parking lot, it becomes apparent that the Lodge has a real Elk herd out back. The city has done a nice job with the Elk Park. If you want to stretch your legs, there is another park, Alpine Park, on the opposite side of the Elk enclosure with paved walking paths, mountain bike trails, and snowshoe trails in the winter.

We love stopping by Gaylord's City Elk Park to see the elk, and do it EVERY time we're in the area. They're are a lot of them, and yes, they are beautiful! The have a huge fenced in area to roam in so may not always be visible, but it's definitely worth trying, as it's a quick and easy off/on stop from I-75. We've been stopping for years to see these beauties, and only missed them once. Gorgeous and Beautiful! (10-26-2021)
