I’m sharing this in hopes that no one else has to go through what I did. I booked the River Room at Geneva Winery in Batavia on February 28th with one of the owners, Laura, for my daughter’s bridal shower to be held on June 8th (1–4 PM), with a rental fee of $500 for the room. Laura confirmed the booking with me and said a manager would follow up with a contract and deposit info, but I didn’t hear from anyone until April 24th, when the manager called to say the room had been double booked and we’d need to move to the front retail area, which wasn’t suitable for our 50 guests. I was reassured by Laura that the room was still ours. A week later, while I was on vacation, the manager called again to say it actually wasn’t available. When I returned, I met with Laura on May 3rd. She admitted the mistake and offered either the lawn with tents or a split setup, first hour in the retail area, then moving to the River Room once available, "at no extra cost". I reluctantly agreed and continued planning. I followed up multiple times about the contract, and when I finally received it on May 9th, the times and pricing were incorrect. The contract listed a 2:30 PM start time with setup at 1:00 PM, which 1:00 PM was the time our event was actually supposed to begin, and included extra charges for things I didn’t request, totaling $1,252.94. I contacted Laura again, expressing concern that they might not be able to accommodate us and that I might need to find another venue. She reassured me once more that everything would be fine and promised a corrected contract. I asked to meet with Laura and her husband Brent to ensure we were all on the same page. We met on May 14th, went over everything, and I left thinking it was resolved. But the revised contract Brent sent removed the unneeded items yet only lowered the price by $2.94 from $1,252.94 to $1,250. I called Laura again, and she agreed the price was still wrong and said Brent would fix it. Instead, Brent emailed demanding full payment of $1,250 before he would send me a corrected contract, without even listing what that price included. With just a week and a half until the shower, I had no choice but to scramble to find a new venue. I would strongly caution against doing...
Read moreI wish i could give more stars, the wine was fantastic and once we got service it was a very pleasant experience. My friend made a reservation for 4 people, called the morning of. We arrived excited and ready for our first wine tasting. When checking in with the host we were told that the only seating was a table without a server and while i totally understand being short staffed, there were other tables available WITH a server but we were told “ Those tables are reserved for other guests with reservations”
We had a reservation and we stated that to the host and she still insisted that the only tables available were ones without a server and we would be required to serve ourselves by going in. If we were a walk in customer i would understand being seated in that specific section but given we had a reservation it definitely put a negative bump in our experience. We decided to sit down in the section our host recommended only to find a table available inside with service when we walked in to serve ourselves. We were able to get service from the bar staff after They mentioned we could make use of the empty table and they would be happy to serve us. Once we were inside the entire moral changed of our party of 4. We had a good time with the staff inside. In the end it was a decent experience overall but as brand new customers it felt as if we weren’t of the correct status in order to receive waiting service. We are unsure if we will return based on the original service...
Read moreAwful. We had been to the Batavia location last summer and the wine we had was decent so thought we would try again for a night out with a group of 5. Bad decision. The servers were fantastic, the GM, not so much. Within the first 10 minutes we were there, we endured him screaming at a customer for approaching the wrong section of the bar to order a glass of wine. Evidently you can only order wine at the far end of the bar? Our group ordered two bottles upon arrival and the first one was fine, the second smelled like feet and tasted very musty. We asked our server to try it as perhaps it was corked. He sent the GM over and without even speaking with us, he poured himself a taste, slugged it down and said, “It’s fine, it is what it is” and promptly waked away. Not one person in our entire group of 5 could choke that swill down. We were stunned that the GM would behave like that. We paid our tab and left an entire bottle of “wine” on the table.
We were there at a prime time on a Friday night and there were never more than 10 people there, with several being children. That was a clue. The entire serving staff was new. That was a clue. And I see that GW is looking for investors, presumably to keep the business afloat. That’s a clue. The behavior of your GM was ridiculous. If this person represents your company and your leadership-investors (and...
