Let’s start off with the bad. Both meals we had were bad. Every Sunday we try to support a local business. I have picked up many doordash orders from here so I was excited. My wife had been told it was a fantastic place so she was looking forward to posting about it on Facebook. Needless to say given my rating on it. We are both disappointed.
Starting with my meal. I love biscuits and gravy. It is a staple in my breakfast world right up there with orange juice and grandmas jam. Living down south I have been spoiled by the plethora of options for this delight made for the gods. It’s very simple to make let me walk you through it, fry up some sausage, get the grease out of the meat and into that pan, mix in some flour, salt, pepper, and a smidge of milk to make it creamy like any good gravy, and serve on top of biscuits with bacon and eggs. The gelatinous coagulated overly bougie “gravy” with pre-cooked “sausage” that was seasoned like they let a 5 year old into the spice cabinet is not how they should taste.
Now for my wife’s meal. It was a simple corned beef hash skillet. If you need a way to make that let me recommend you walk into the grocery store and look in the canned aisle. Hormel has a great low cost example of this if you don’t want to put in a few hours into making this salty, concoction of pickled meat and potatoes. She is driving at the moment so let me get a few descriptions from her. She said I don’t know. Why does she not know, you may ask. Because after three bites she didn’t eat it. Similarly to my mean. It was over bougie. The hash did not have the flavors of the forbidden fruit you can find in isle J7 instead it contained what I would assume you could find in the back lot. No not the dumpster or the taco truck next to it. The children’s lemonade stand quality hash.
If you noticed I gave this disgrace to cooking two stars. You may be asking yourself but probably not whyyyyyyyyyyyyy? Simple. The cranberry butter like “jam” was fantastic. The English muffins are probably from Costco. The cranberry butter...
Read moreClean place, decent tasting food, but that's about all. This place has gone down hill in the past year or so. The portions have been cut back significantly and they charge / overcharge for simple condiment level additions. Try somewhere else if you are looking for a fun brunch or are treating yourself/family to a breakfast out.
Example: My wife chose chilaquiles as her entree, subbed in chicken for an up-charge of $2.00 (fair enough it was listed on the menu) bringing the cost to $14.00. At 14.00 I would expect a decent sized meal, but what was brought out barely filled the small skillet they presented it on. Despite this being a Mexican dish, it did not come with sour cream so she asked for some. The server came back with the sour cream and a new bill advising that she had to charge us for it (not her fault). Ok, no big deal I guess, it is extra. But $0.50 for a literal spoonful, truly very little sour cream is just nonsense. I am not going to go into detail over the rest of our order, but for the amount paid we should not have left hungry. Neither one of us are large individuals just an average married couple and child out to a Saturday brunch.
We used to look for excuses to come to this restaurant since it is sort of out of our way, but at least we don't have to worry about that anymore. We will try it again in a few years, if it is still there. Once you see places starting to cut back on portions, it is usually only a couple years or so from going away.
Kudos to you if you read this whole...
Read moreThis has always been my favorite breakfast spot, and I was looking forward to finally dining in again. We were so disappointed! We walked in and the restaurant was nearly empty, so we sat down right away. The hostess didn't offer us menus, just waved vaguely at the sign on the table with the specials and said the menu was online through the QR code. Then we waited ten minutes for someone to come over to us, while other tables seated after us had had a server visit them. When our server finally came he brought coffee that we hadn't ordered, so he ended up taking one back as I don't drink coffee. My husband snapped at him a bit, since we've been used to outstanding service here, and after the initial encounter our server was much better, although not nearly as good as the old staff. I didn't recognize a single person in the place - it seems that all the old staff is gone and now it's all kids who don't know what to do. The food was as good as we remembered, although much slower than in the past. We will go back, but probably not for a few months. We understand that restaurants are struggling with less staff right now, but of the half a dozen restaurants we've visited in the last few weeks, this was by far the most poorly organized of them. It's so much more disappointing because this place had the BEST service and friendliest staff before...
