This review is a bit late in coming, but this place is awesome. In early September, I took off on a weekend bike tour on my ol’ road bike and managed to make it 100 miles north the first day before my rear rack broke, the derailleur bent all the way into the spokes, and a number of other faulty parts (cassette, cables, bottom bracket) caught up with me at last. The next day I limped my ride into this conveniently located shop, desperate for a quick fix, — I still had the 100 miles I needed to ride back by the following day — and these mechanics worked emergency surgery bike repair magic (after chastising me for loading a ton of weight on a bike that was really meant for racing) so that I could leave by the afternoon. Not only that, but while I waited in their shop, they entertained me and the fellow customers with a comical and oddly reassuring banter that reminded me of Click and Clack from the old radio show “Car Talk.” It’s one thing to get your bike fixed up ASAP when you’re in the N. Michigan hinterlands so you can get yourself home in time for work, another to get some really good greasy bike shop repartee while you wait. I’m so grateful these guys exist and decided to open a shop way up north. Was it expensive? Hell yeah. Was it worth it? Absolutely 100 percent. I’ll be sure to go back if I make the trip again (albeit with an actual touring bike). Thanks guys! If you made a podcast, I’d...
Read moreRented a couple of bikes for my wife and I for four hour period. The bike certainly looked well-kept and in good shape, however mind the front sprocket was on the middle gear when I took it out and I didn’t have occasion to change gears till about a half mile away. That’s when I found out that changing the gears on the front sprocket was not possible. Had to ride for miles on the smaller sprocket once it finally allowed me to make a change. When returning the bikes, I commented to the young man at the window that bike H7 needed attention for the derailer of the front sprocket. He didn’t attempt to make a note of it or ask any coworker to go out and get the bike so they could make adjustments before it was handed off to another customer. Didn’t offer any sort of apology for the lack of gear changing functionality. (to update, after this review, the merchant called me back quickly and pointed out that the bike I rented would be ridden and tested before it was rented to...
Read moreI rented an E bike there today. I only wanted it for a couple of hours and they told me that E bikes rented only by the full day at a cost of $89. Last year, I was able to rent an E bike for four hours in Suttons Bay for half the price. I did not want the bike for the whole day. Also, the bikes in Sutton Bay are superior to these e-bikes. None of their bikes have throttles, baskets, or holders for your phone. The bikes in Suttons Bay have all of those things. To be more clear, I am 70 years old with a bad knee so not having a throttle makes it hard for me to get a bike started. Other than that, the bikes were fine. My main issue is that I feel like I got ripped off because they charged me $89 When I only had the bike for a couple of hours. They did not give me an option for a half day, which I know they do in the summer. I understand the struggles of a seasonal business, but I still felt taking...
