I love roller skating and I’ve been waiting to come to this rink for over a year. I finally made the 50 minute drive Friday evening and am a little underwhelmed at the music selection, parking availability, and music volume. It’s 9:10pm right now I’ll complete the review and either increase or decrease stars once I’m home. I honestly wish I would have gone to Skate Express, Fountain Valley, Skateland, or even god forbid World on Wheels.
It’s like they paid for a subpar music license with all the junk you hear at cheap restaurants, nail salons, or other venues that require a per head count license and didn’t want to get a premium license to play the good shish.
It’s 11:11pm and the last thing my nine year old said is, “I didn’t like any of the music they played...” the irony is I mentioned none of the above to my nine year old.
The worst part is I paid $22 to get Rick Rolled during the last hour of the session. The DJ is so out of tune with his audience that he seriously played Rick Aston’s Never Gonna Let You Down to a demographic of at least 70% - 80% children. Moonlight please consider either upgrading your music license and have tour DJ begin researching music popular with 2019’s children not 1989’s children.
When a nine year old leaves with a mediocre comment on music selection you should reconsider who’s playing music that evening. Nostalgia 5 stars. Kid friendly 5 stars. Music selection 1 star. Cleanliness 4 stars. Atmosphere 4 stars. Floor 4 stars. Slush puppies 5 stars.
Only thing that will get me back to Moonlight is a personal invite by one of the talented and amazing LA Roller Girls. In fact, the reason I went was because they had a cute Instagram gif advertising Moonlight. Either way, the music selection absolutely sucked and didn’t even blend with previous or future tracks.
The Rick Roll dropped this to 2.44 so I gotta rate this a 2 star evening at a 5 star location. I guess I expected more after all the hype of this place. I am not taking points off due to lack of parking. They can’t control the location or parking situation but they sure as heck can control a dj who’s in tune with today’s music and hits. Why have a DJ that’s unable to create a memorable night through the use of music? When the DJ cluelessly plays an Internet meme to paying customers yeah.... a song suitable for the dj is Hall and Oates Out of Touch.
I do not recommend this skating rink to intermediate / advance skates or spoiled by all the other skating locations mentioned earlier.
Update 02/22: watched united skates dropped...

June 19, 2023 Evening session- Terrible Racist, disrespectful, experience for me on Juneteenth holiday, emotionally traumatic for me and the other black women that I came to celebrate a Spa wellness center for the homeless population.
Ive been a hearing impaired roller skating since est 1985- present The skating community has always been a loving compassionate community space for me, I call the skate community family.
I am a California West-coast classic four wheel roller skater, who is highly active in serving my community. I live 14 mins away from the rink.
I should be able to be apart of my own skate community at Moonlight Skating Rink Right? Starting with the window, skate shop to skate floor was oppressive, discrimination, disrespectful to me, black people, and skate culture as a whole.
The eyeing looking at me up and down in disgust , maybe she didn’t like my skate swag, or the color of my skin?
my money or card was not accepted, I had step out of line to get a ticket online at eventbrite. My eyes had to see the people in line in front of me get to use cash money get accepted in the rink.
I took my uncomfortable self to talk to a elder white man about me not feeling invited or comfortable in his establishment, he said you should come on Wednesdays. He ignored me!
I spent $33.00, I never felt valued at all in my experience at the rink.
Im a hearing impaired women I cant hear well out of both of my ears, I needed to put ear phones on because the sound system was on low volume for me. Floor guard body language was rude, dominate, aggressive and disrespectful to me. I left the rink early.
My black friends told me how they were treated disrespectful and rude.
I clearly see the unconscious behavior of the staff in this establishment they have a obsoletes way of doing thing with low frequency vibration and causing harm.
I will not be quiet on this matter because Im the voice for the voiceless, the community champion of the people, I will be back to serve Moonlight rink the Community Bill of Rights/ assessment.
I have let 4000 people in the skate community aware of what happen, it's time for a radical change Honor and respect for all Souls is mandatory on the planet...
Read moreI absolutely love this place. It's really good and the floor is perfect for skating and it has the right vibe to it. They are also very strict though. Such as no laying on the side, even if you're resting, a child, or new to rollerskating which I can understand they are "worried" that people will get hurt but the ring is a good side and the corners are always empty so that was horrible. An employee blows a whistle at you or talks to you for you to move. The people also don't seem to care at all about safety, for example someone dropped their stopper and they gave a warning but did nothing so someone rollerskating had to pick it up. It's also very crowded and a lot of people fall but besides that it's very good. Something that is annoying is the fact you have to pay to re-enter the place if you leave. Also the fact that even if you're going I there for someone and don't intend on skating they won't let you in unless you buy a pair of skates. Their food on the other hand is okay to be fair... their funnel cake is hard and not the best but it's good. Rollerblades are allowed too. Many complains though, the air conditioning is absolutely horrible. They didn't decide to turn it on until later in the night and since you have to keep your mask on its insanely stuffy and hot. The employees are very rude as well, I've had bad interactions with them today too. The line sucks as well. With the worker who was giving out the tickets having literal conversations with people holding the line. We got there at a good time and ended up waiting about 25 to 30 minutes just because the employees were slacking off. They really need to up their employees because they were not doing there job right and just being plain stupid all night. A slight tangent about the lockers as well, we had gotten one and for almost 30 minutes we had no idea it was broken and didn't lock. They dont even have a sign or paper saying "broken" so we wasted our money and then had to get another one. Bad security job huh. Aside from that there are some reckless skaters but I don't see a problem with it as someone who its mediocre at skating. People who are new probably have an opposite approach but some people are just jerks and trip people for fun. But you can't blame the place for that. Overall the place is okay and really fun but their employees are...
