I recently moved to Glendale after living most of my whole life in the Redondo Beach area. We have a few fast food Mexican places that are in-expensive and satisfying, so of course I needed to meet that expectation in my new town. A Glendale local suggested El Sauz. If you live anywhere south of the hills, it’s super easy to get to being right on the same street as Target and mall on Colorado Blvd.
The best thing about this burrito stand are the tortillas. I order the vegetarian burrito for about $6, which stays together until you’ve eaten it. It’s more moist than King Taco’s tortilla which is dry and broke on me mid-meal. Instead, this tortilla reminds me of the fresh ones you watch being made in front of you in Mexico with a stretch texture.
It's a cash-only restaurant but it does have an ATM. That’s another plus because many great little restaurants in L.A. don’t have them at all and the idea of fast food is the convenience of being able to pay with a card or have ATM access on-site. On top of that, they have great service too. There's a small back patio where you can eat away from the busy street. I quickly found that living in Glendale means it gets very hot compared to the beach cities, so El Sauz’s shaded patio is perfect. It’s a close walk from many neighborhoods where I can bring my dog along. It’s the first on my list of local eats where I want to impress someone because it’s close to the shopping, the food is made quickly and it's priced really well.
The parking is convenient to access, just don't miss the turn because it's on a busy street. I usually pick up lavash or other bread at the bakery next door during my...

ORIGINAL POST: It's been a year since I've been here and to my surprise, there have been changes. Since 2003 I've only known the business as Gina's Tacos. My biggest worry was that homemade salsa and tacos would be different. Well, the carnitas and asada tacos were tasty and when requested, the polite lady who took my order gave me plenty of lime, sliced radish and hot sauce. El Sauz is more generous with the amount of meat on each taco than Gina' s was, which is good considering prices have gone up. Unfortunately, as feared, the old Gina' s Tacos hot salsa is gone. SUPER. SAD. Fortunately though, the horchata was flavorful and the new salsa has decent flavor with more heat. I was sniffing in my helmet when I rode away (mostly because I miss the old salsa flavor but will admit I'm a weakling with spicy things). All things change. I'll go...
