The Avenue Beauty Bar — Attraction in Gloucester

Before moving to the North Shore, I was looking for a new hair salon since I had been going to the same stylist in Boston who was a family friend. My mom recommended Vanessa Holding of Avenue Beauty Bar in Gloucester and I could not be more grateful for this suggestion! Going to Vanessa's salon is such a pleasurable and fun experience; all of the stylists are so chatty, lively, and talented. The salon has a "Cheers"-like, local salon feel to it where everyone knows your name and welcomes you with open arms whether you are a first-timer or long-term client and there are ample opportunities to jump into great conversations! The decor is very homey and elegant and gives off an earthy, yet chic feel which is very inviting. The prices are extremely reasonable (100 dollars less than what I have paid anywhere else!) and the ability to tip with a credit card saves the hassle of tracking down an ATM which is much appreciated.

Now, for my stylist, Vanessa! I have had many hair stylists in my lifetime, but few have even come close to her. Not only is Vanessa such a pleasant, kind, funny, and attentive person (I always look forward to our conversations when I go in!),but she is an immensely gifted stylist who treats me like a queen! Every time I go in to see her, I bring a picture of what I am looking for and she does not just replicate it, she makes it even better and even more importantly, is extremely gentle on the scalp. I have a very sensitive scalp and she massages it with such care. I also love how honest she is; most hair stylists will tell you what you want to hear, but she will tell you exactly what will be be best based on your vision. She is innovative, creative, and up-to-date on all of the best trends and techniques, so you know your hair will get the best treatment possible! Just when I think I have my best hairdo yet, Vanessa outdoes herself every time. Her work always leaves me feeling more confident, summery, and radiant and it frames my face nicely. I absolutely LOVE The Avenue Beauty Bar! I first went to them to get my hair cut, and I ended up using them for wedding day hair team and they were absolutely amazing!!! Stefanie and Amanda were so fun and personable and contributed a fun, getting ready mood! They also were able to work with such a range of hair - from short, pin strait hair to the thickest and curliest hair! They did a range of different styles and looks and it stayed in place for the whole day/night. Coordinating with Jaclyn was also extremely easy! I’d met Brittany separately from her salon but a friend was telling me how much she loved going to her. After my first appointment with Brittany today I love going to her, too!

I don’t love getting my hair cut, or styled, but I was immediately comfortable when Brittany welcomed me like an old friend. Her salon is clean and everyone there—staff and customers were smiling and had great energy. The salon is easy to get to but I’d go out of my way even if it wasn’t; I liked it that much.
