Cool theme for an escape room. It is one of the more difficult escape rooms I've done as some of the mechanics were a little buggy or the clues weren't as straight forward. The one thing I wasn't okay with was the jump scare in "The Studio". We had some neuro divergent people in our group and I specifically told them nothing would be super scary/jump out since there were no warnings (which is what I've experienced in the past). There was extremely loud bangs and an arm punched through a painting. It really put the damper on the rest of the experience since the neuro divergent individuals really shut down after that. When asked for comments at the end, I said that there should be a warning for jump scares as had I seen that warning, I would have chosen a different room. I was met with "what jump scare?" which made us feel invalidated. I've had many horror/creepy themed rooms but have never dealt with that kind of jump scare before. Decent experience but be wary if people aren't...
Read moreDecipher is the best escape room I’ve done in North Carolina east of Winston-Salem, surpassing even rooms in larger cities like Raleigh and Cary. I'm a seasoned escape room enthusiast, with 30 rooms under my belt.
The puzzles were challenging, fun, and well-suited to the theme, with clever mechanical and electronic elements that enhanced the experience. The use of audio and lighting added to the atmosphere, and the final puzzle was a thrilling conclusion to the story.
One standout feature of Decipher is the unique start: players begin handcuffed and blindfolded. While this may sound intimidating, it fits the narrative and surprisingly you can still accomplish a lot with one hand handcuffed.
Our game master, John, was excellent—friendly, helpful, and enthusiastic. He offered just the right amount of hints to keep my team moving without giving...
Read moreWow! Of all the escape rooms I have done Downtown Escapes is by far my favorite! From the moment you arrive the owners and the staff create a fun and exciting atmosphere that builds upon itself with each minute that passes. The rooms are challenging but not to the point they are not fun. When you need a clue the staff provide you with just enough of a hint to point you in the right direction but not so much that you feel like they’re solving the room for you. As the rooms progress you truly feel like you’re in the moment, working towards the goal and not just in a game. There is a great sense of accomplishment with every puzzle solved and an awesome sense of pride once you escape! I absolutely recommend you give Downtown Escapes a try, wether you’re new to escape rooms or a seasoned vet. You’ll walk out of one room and want to walk right...
