Thank you ! Thank You ! Thank You!!!! When I was first diagnosed with stage 1 -Assymetrical Parkinson's Disease in December 2024, I was devastated . This was the final straw in a year where I was previously diagnosed with stage one prostate cancer and after extensive radiation treatments, I was deemed to be cancer free. I had just beat cancer and now this??? Now I have a disease for which there is no cure and the symptoms will get progressively worse until the end. Fortunately my Neurologist developed a treatment plan for me that included medication and physical therapy. Without hesitation, he highly recommended Swan Rehab. His exact words were that Swan had an outstanding, comprehensive and effective program for care for patients with Parkinson's. On January 2, my wife and I met with Nicole Thiers for my initial evaluation. She was awesome. 1. She talked to me in such a way that quickly calmed all my fears and all alleviated my concerns that things were hopeless for me. 2. She described her level of expertise and experience with Parkinson's patients and how she believed that due to my early stage the therapy could be very effective. 3. She interviewed my wife and answered her questions so well that her fears were alleviated also. 4. She set me up with a comprehensive therapy treatment program which included Speech Therapy (ST) , Occupational Therapy (OT) and Physical Therapy (PT). At the end of the initial session Nicole worked with her team to provide a plan for PT, OT and ST that was customized to my specific treatment needs. She was extremely effective in explaining each area and how it would help me deal with Parkinson's symptoms in an effective manner. After having a very effective SP session with Sarina Patel -for Speech Therapy, Sarina provided me with a website to use at home and a workbook loaded with exercises to do at home. Subsuently other team members like Mario and Jackie were equally helpful in each session to point out activities which I could accomplish at home and even provide me with printouts of the exercises. I actually created a loose leaf binder to keep track of all the printouts. I was shown given access to an mobile phone app (StriveHub) which also contained a s library of different exercises to complete at home. In each case the therapist went over the exercise to show me how to do it correctly at home wwithout supervision. The icing on the cake for me was the two weekly one hour Tuesday sessions which are hosted by Sarina (Speak Out) and Nicole (Powr) . These sessions were extremely helpful in keeping me as a Parkinson's patient on track and i am happy to see that i can continue them even after I am discharged from the normal therapy sessions. Team Swan is to be commended for hosting these sessions as an extra measure to aid us in dealing with Parkinson's symptoms. Doing them as a group was also very rewarding to me to see how well therapies worked on other patients. The additional cost per session was nominal and well worth the cost. In conclusion, one of the key principles of I have lived my 75 years of life by is "A setback is a setup for a comeback!" It is a principle that has assisted in coping with many many negative situations. In this case TEAM SWAN has proven to be an essential component to my comeback plan against Parkinson's. I am truly blessed and grateful to have strong advocates like Nicole and her Team on my side. When I am discharged this week, I am positive that my comeback plan will be successful and I am no longer fearful of future outcomes as a result of the horrible disease. With Team Swan i know i can handle whatever Parkinson's sends my way. Thank you for a job well done. Team Swan and it's Rehab Without Walls is the exemplary standard by which other Rehab programs should be judged. Keep up the good work!
