We tried this place on a wimb. The restaurant had beautiful decorations. We were seated immediately. The waitress did offer to seat us closer to the TV if we wanted to see the game. We kindly declined. She immediately asked us our drink order and gave us menus. Speedy service is always a plus w this AZ sun. With in five minutes of us being there we had drinks and had our appetizers ordered. We unknowingly went in during happy hour and seen they had alot of rolls on special for that time. We ordered a spicy salmon roll, a Philly roll & a Las Vegas roll. We also had 2 orders of salmon nigiri & an order of veggie spring rolls. The food took about 10 minutes to start coming out. We got the salmon nigiri & spring rolls first. The salmon was VERY thickly cut & it was Delicious! The ginger was fresh and rice was seasoned well. I will definitely be back for that. The spring rolls on the other hand, we both were not fans of. They definitely tasted like old grease and the inside was grey. I put that down after bite 1. We recieved the platter of sushi after another 5 minutes. Our Philly, spicy salmon & las vegas were on there. They are heavy w the rice on all 3 rolls. We started w the spicy salmon. The roll was great! The sauce on the salmon w the amount of rice was perfectly paired. It coated the rice in your mouth and spreads the spicy goodness all over. Every bite a new blend of flavors with a crispy crunch & snap of the seaweed. The Philly roll was ok to me. My husband loved the fact that they use a huge block of cream cheese in it but it honestly over took the entire flavor of the roll for myself. Our least favorite was the Las Vegas roll. The batter used was way too sweet for that type of a roll. We honestly took one out of the 8 rolls each and did not eat the rest. It almost tasted like a sweet corn dog batter but instead of a thick batter it's really thin. Either way, I did not enjoy the sweetness w the fish. We asked for our check shortly after and our total was $51 and change. Not to bad. We would try this place again in the future. I decided to give 4 stars because we had a great server and they were fast. Worth a shot. I definitely reccomend the...
Read moreWe came here on a recommendation from my husband's friend, although I had been here previously in years past. Overall, not a great experience food wise. We started with the sampler platter which came with edamame, calamari sticks, egg rolls, monkey brains, and jalapeno poppers.
The calamari tasted... Off. A little sour. The egg rolls were a deep, dark brown and also tasted off. I'm not entirely sure of the filling, but they were far too greasy to have been tasty. The monkey brains had one mushroom. One button mushroom. There's are supposed to be mushrooms stuffed with crab mix. Not a button mushroom surrounded by crab mixed and battered in tempura. I'm not sure what the deal was with that. Overall, the edamame was the best part of this dish.
Once finished, our main dishes arrived. A sashimi salad for myself and beef yakisoba for my husband. Whatever spicy mayo based dressing the sashimi salad was in, it was swimming in it. Absolutely swimming in this dressing. It was a little impressive how much of it there was.
My husband's yakisoba was both impressively bland and dry while overly greasy at the same time. Again, not sure how that could be so bad.
We also ordered two sushi rolls. I ordered the Mechanic and he ordered a crunchy eel roll. Once they arrived we were excited as these two rolls looked impressive... Until the rice began to fall apart when we tried eating the Mechanic roll.
We go to sushi restaurants frequently and make them at home at least once a week. We wash and season our own sushi rice. This was just poorly executed all around. The crunchy eel roll was worse however, as the tempura coating on it was a deep brown and the rice inside a little too oily for our tastes.
In the end, we just asked for our check. After tip, it was an expensive $90+ experience we won't be repeating. I don't think I'd ever be able to recommend coming here...
Read moreI am a server myself, so I try to be understanding. However, I draw the line at COCKROACHES and bad service. Elizabeth was our server, and she really didn't bother with being nice. Waved us to sit wherever ( the place was EMPTY ). Elizabeth was very much on her time and not our time. She walked away immediately after I said my first starter, I had to call out the rest of my order as she was at the ziosk already. She looked annoyed. After our appetizers, I'm looking around, and I see a HUGE COCKROACH on the white wall near one of the tables. I tell Elizabeth about the cockroach. She goes over and looks at me like I'm making things up until she spots it and slams her foot down onto it. She looks at me and says, "Oh, I see it now." She proceeds to sweep it up and walk into the back without a backward glance at us. Needless to say, I've lost my appetite. She brings us our entrees, not asking us any question, no offer of apologies for the cockroach display. I couldn't eat my basic orange chicken, and my husband hardly touched his bento box. Meanwhile, we can hear laughing in the kitchen from our server. We are still the only ones in the restaurant. She finally returns to ask us if we wanted boxes. I told her I couldn't eat my orange chicken and we wouldn't be taking anything home. She charges me full price for EVERYTHING. I asked her to take the orange chicken off since I didn't eat it. She gave me a look that suggested this was all completely my fault.
I came here with my family several years back, and it was a regular spot for me and my parents. So, I was excited to bring my husband here. I left feeling...
