So many positive reviews and I want to know where this professionalism was for my installation? This is going to be a long one. I regretted the decision to use this company immediately after the installers arrived. I was showing them around as to what needed to be done and started with the kitchen pantry. I discussed the option with Closets By Design but they must not have included it in the pricing they sent me. The installers destroyed all the cabinets in the pantry before I could even take my next breath to ask any questions. Once the pantry was demolished the lead immediately looked at me and said the pantry wasn't on the work order - he did't call anyone nor did he look at the paper so he knew all along that the pantry wasn't on the original list. At this point I was stuck and was forced to pay $600 more than the agreed upon price. I was completely scammed and we both knew they got me.
The installers did shoddy work on my basement built-in shelf where there were major gaps all over and didn't even extend the full distance. Additionally, the installation of my new master bedroom closet was also inferior with over a dozen screws protruding from the top of the shelves. Both the pantry and bedroom closet were requested for an upgrade in order to allow for more space but I actually lost a lot of space in these areas.
I requested that the installers save the shelving that was inside the master bedroom closet because I wanted to use the shelves for additional storage in other areas of the house. Whenever I asked, the lead installer would look at me as if I was irking him. The installers completely demolished the bedroom closet and the very important lumber was trashed. If I go back to buy more brackets and lumber that will cost me over $1000. I shouldn't have to beg someone to save my own property. As an insult, they ripped expensive hooks off of the wall and trashed them, too! Those had nothing to do with the tear-down.
The installers made no attempt to clean up after themselves and both my wife and I each tore our feet open on loose wood and screws on the floor. My wife actually cut her foot so bad that blood was gushing out. The installers were insulting me behind my back because I asked if I could start putting away the food into the kitchen pantry once I saw they were done. Very unprofessional (sigh).
A $5,000 project that turned into $6000 should have never happened. Closets by Design should have taken responsibility for not knowing what their assigned projects were and built my pantry on their dime - not mine! It was bad enough that it took over three month to schedule me for an appointment but for $6,000 I was expecting a toilet made from solid gold. Instead, the service and product I received was the other thing. Very disappointing. You would think the company would treat a repeat customer with a little more respect for continued business and support but there just isn't loyalty anymore, I guess.
There was absolutely no positives to take away from this installation. I just have to accept that I was scammed...
Read moreSo first off the initial person who took the order set a wrong estimation of timeline and it was delayed for months after we made the payment and signed the contract. That was fine, however the installation did not go as well either, damaged some existing custom closet, wall moulding, drawers not alligning, etc. However I was relieved when talking to one of the managers who agreed whatever was done was not right assured that it will be fixed soon. It's been 2 weeks and haven't heard back from the smae person. They keep calling to ask for the remaining payment, after the first call they sent a person over to fix it, however he came highlighted the issues, made some measurements and left. Since then we got another call asking for money again and we mentioned the installation issues and havent heard back from anyone yet. Been a nightmare geting a small change to our exisitng closet system.
Update: they sent one of the senior guy/manager to work on fixing all the mistakes. He was awesome, very professional, knowledgeable. He had gotten some extra drawers to replace the ones that were not fitting well, but realized they had not made the right size in the factory and he was upset with his men as well. He was able to fix all the issues we had the did a meticulous job. He took time and effort to do it right and said there was no reason why they could not do it right the first time. He replaced the trim on the wall, painted and made it look...
Read moreWe had our master closet done by Closets by Design 10 years ago, and the quality and construction have exceeded my expectations. When we were ready to update the closets in our daughters' rooms, we knew we wanted to go back to Closets by Design. Tarrah was wonderful to work with as a designer - she listed to my wishlist, including eliminating the need for dressers in both rooms, and maintaining a built-in original to the house in one of the closets. When Mike and Alex came to do the install, which they squeezed in to their schedule for me prior to Christmas, they did such wonderful work. They were so respectful of the house, taking care moving large pieces up a narrow stairwell, and being thoughtful to catch my noisy front door on their way in and out because I was on a series of video calls for work. Best of all, they left my new beautiful closets in better shape than they found them, having cleaned behind themselves with a nice smell of orange zest in the air. When I showed my daughters their new closets they were thrilled, and so am I because now all of their things will have an beautifully, organized place to be put away! The quality of the product and the service level of Closets by Design is...
