I am a regular customer at the Westport Village location. What I find incredibly disappointing is the lack of cleanliness. Tables are consistently littered with donut sprinkles and crumbs. Seats have frosting, glaze and crumbs. And looking under a table will make you think twice about sitting down and subjecting your shoes to the pile of leftover frosting, donut pieces and paper towels.
I've inquired with the staff about this issue and they have assured me the tables are wiped once daily at the end of the day! That's right! ONE TIME DAILY.
I don't blame the staff. But the management of this coffee and donut shop leaves much room for improvement. Perhaps you don't realize that donuts are sticky. That coffee spills. That people and kids leave crumbs. Or perhaps you assume your customers enjoy using the provided paper towels to desperately try to clean their own tables, scrub glaze off the seats so it doesn't stick to their clothing, or wipe up spills left by the previous customers.
There is no excuse. The busiest coffee and donut shops find time to wipe their tables. I'm not asking for full wait staff service. But what about a simple rule to wipe the tables once every hour?
I spend 4-6 hours per week at your Westport location. And I see other customers try to find a clean table and clean their own chair with a grimace on their face. I long ago stopped buying my pastry from your location - as I don't trust you to have a clean kitchen. I used to buy one of the most exotic coffee concoctions but likewise stopped that practice for the same reason. I now purchase a small brewed coffee - desperately hoping the coffee brewing machine is hot enough to kill off whatever germs are present. As I'm sure it does not get cleaned regularly.
I've long wanted this location to succeed. I like having a local donut and coffee place to enjoy. But I've asked, recommended and suggested to no avail. So I'm left with posting a review and perhaps if I, and other customers, raise the concern enough things will eventually change. I hope so. If not, I fear this location won't be open that...
Read moreI've been making a point the last 2 weeks to try other donut shops besides my go-to, King Donuts. I stopped in to see their selection of donuts, which was very limited. I also made a very specific coffee order. The person that helped me was very brusque. Considering it was my first time, I wasn't really sure what I wanted to try. I ordered a cold brew, something that I normally order at Starbucks. And I ordered it like I normally order it at Starbucks, a cold brew with extra sweet cream, cold foam, a shot of mocha and powdered cinnamon on top. I said extra sweet cream several times. I paid for my order and then he comenses to making it.
As I'm watching him make it, I realize he's not putting any sweet cream in the cold brew. I asked him about it, and then he rather rudely said 'well that's a Starbucks invention, I don't have sweet cream', something he should have mentioned when I actually ordered extra sweet cream. So I asked him to put in some simple syrup to actually make the drink sweeter, which was my goal. He put in one small squirt. Then he proceeded to pour out even more of my cold brew to put in more milk. But overfilled the cup so much with cold foam that it got all over the cup and he just handed it to me like I was going to pick it up and be sticky the rest of the day. The server was really dismissive. So he was trying to insult me for being a Starbucks customer, when I'm actually in his store trying to patronize his business. That is not how to win over a customer. And the coffee he made was very substandard. If he didn't have sweet cream he should have said that before I paid for it and I would have went somewhere where I could have got my order made the way I wanted it. I paid $7.50 for a drink that I should have been...
Read moreWanted to give them a better review because their yeast donuts are some of the best in town, but they continue to disappoint with their business strategy. First, they can NEVER keep up with demand on their yeast and specialty donuts; if you have the audacity to visit any time after 9 AM and ask about their weekly special, glazed, or chocolate glazed donuts, be prepared to be met with a shocked face that you would even THINK they'd have them available and you'll be told they're out and they aren't making any more "this late in the day" (this has happened to me at LEAST 3 times when I've been there between 9-10 AM...when they stay open until 3 PM).
Also, while I see from their newsletter that the Clay's Mill and Limestone locations in Louisville have a ton of variety in their daily specials, the Westport location continues to offer nothing but the same stale gluten free or vegan offerings EVERY WEEK, with no cool flavors or daily yeast specials that the other branches advertise. It's great to offer gluten free or vegan offerings! But it seems like they just keep the same menu week over week to avoid having to try anything special that their customers might actually like, because then they'd be on the hook to actually put a modicum of effort into the branch that is clearly treated like an afterthought. Their donuts are good, but I probably won't be back unless or until the company decides to update it's model to accommodate demand and to treat it's Louisville customers the same as those...
