Buddy Attick Lake Park in Greenbelt, Maryland, is a peaceful and well-maintained nature retreat that offers a perfect escape from the city. The heart of the park is the beautiful lake, surrounded by a scenic, shaded trail that loops for about 1.25 miles—great for walking, jogging, or casual biking. The path is mostly flat, making it accessible for all fitness levels and ideal for families with young children or seniors.
What makes this park special is its combination of natural beauty and recreational amenities. You’ll find plenty of benches and picnic tables along the way, making it easy to relax and enjoy views of the water. There’s a large playground area that keeps kids engaged, as well as a few open fields for sports or group activities.
The lake is also home to ducks, turtles, and other wildlife, which adds to the peaceful atmosphere. Fishing is allowed (with a license), and many locals come here for quiet afternoons by the water.
Parking is free and usually easy to find, especially during weekdays. The park is clean, safe, and feels well cared for by the community. Whether you're looking to exercise, unwind, or have a picnic, Buddy Attick Lake Park is a lovely destination...
Read moreThis lake was built in 1937 (ish) by white and African-American laborers who manually removed tree stumps, rocks and 'scaped the area so it could be flooded, with the original intention of putting a clubhouse, docks, etc., to make the lake a place for swimming. That was never to be because of harmful organisms in the water. The lake was stocked with a wide variety of fish. Fishing remains a popular sport at the lake to this day. I did hear that had there been funding -- Congress halted work on the three new deal green towns, fearing that government housing was a sign of creeping socialism--there was another identical town in close proximity that was intended for...
Read moreI really love going here. Grills and picnic tables throughout the park, I've arrived b4 12 and was able to get a spot with a grill and table, but have seen after 4pm many more become available. Basketball court, playgroundand ample grass to kick or toss balls around. Nice area to ride your bike not too far from Greenbelt coop. A nice area to walk your dog or go for a stroll. I've been coming here since 2015 to see the fireworks , but this year, I've been utilizing the picnic areas . It's been peaceful when I've been, nice cool breeze, I would say they need to create more parking spaces, but there is parking up towards the Greenbelt police station, but you will have to walk across the street to enter into Buddy Attick park if you choose this route. They have a Men's and Womens bathrooms with 2 stalls in each, patrons do keep it clean, it's not a 5 star hotel bathroom, but it's decent and also better than a...
