Ok, I visited Genesis to have them inspect my wife's Mother's ring. It has a diamond, and our 4 children's birth stones. It's about 30 years old. Janet, the Goldsmith at Genesis, might be the most honest jeweler I've ever talked with. She inspected the ring, indicated the gem stones are very old and coukd break during a repair. She also indicated it would cost hundreds of dollars to enhance/repair the prongs around the diamond. Janet said, "The ring is 30 years old, it's surpassed its life." To reinstall the gems in this pattern, in a similar ring will be upwards of $1500, with today's gold prices. She said," If it were me, I'd wear the ring as is." Stopped in yesterday to have a ring fixed. It was a ring gifted by my mother which had belonged to my late Grandfather. A very meaningful piece, and I wanted to make sure for it to be fixed properly. With fixed I mean, the ring was cut because of a surgery in my Grandfather's later life. Christopher helped me and was super friendly, helpful and professional. At first it was said it'll be done in a few days, but after Christopher noticed how much this meant to me, he had it fixed and ready to be picked up in hours! My wife and I had watches that needing wristband adjustment . Went into some different places to ask about getting it done (a quick "courtesy" thing jewelers do , right?). The Jewelry Center, Haack, and JRS wanted $10 or $25 for each watch adjustment. And Jewelry Center and Haack people acted like doing such repairs was beneath them.
